Daily News reported that a man was helping police with their inquiries after a brazen robbery at the Keerati gold shop at Central Plaza Khon Kaen on Saturday evening. 

 

Naew Na earlier reported that two shots were fired to scare shoppers and staff at the second floor store. 

 

Daily News quoted Muang Khon Kaen police as saying one shot was fired in the air and one casing was found.

A total of 33 baht weight in gold jewelry worth nearly 1 million baht was taken after the man in a balaclava vaulted the counter.

 

A 50,000 baht reward is still on offer.

 

DNA has been taken from bags recovered at the scene and a suspect in custody who was picked up at the Torung Ruamjit market at 11 pm on Saturday night.

 

Police are waiting to confirm if they have the right man - they said his shoes matched those of the person at the scene.

The man in custody is a person previously convicted of robbery and drug offences.

 

But police stressed that the reward is still on the table and they have not ruled out a former mall employee or construction worker being behind the robbery.

So 1 million baht worth gone and they offer only 50k as a reward? me think that maybe, maybe, just maybe it wasn't that much that got nicked, but what do i know? i'm just a farang how have been leaving here for too long...

In the video, it looks like after he jumped over the counter, he only grabbed a couple handfuls of gold. It that all it takes to be worth THB 1 million, about US$ 30,000? ????

Don’t understand why he took so little unless he owed around a million bht to someone . Would have taken him 10 seconds to empty about 10 display trays into a bag .

1 baht weight now costs 29,700 baht.

 

11 x 3  =  33 baht weight. ................33 x 29,700  =   approx   980,100 baht

The more you snatch  the more you have to carry and being the motorcycle is the usual getaway vehicle any bag becomes cumbersome.

Yup, he missed a chance spending just 10-15 seconds more and it been 3M+

But it amazes me mostly how many freaking gold those shops each have, specially knowing there are so many of them. Guess they are richer than banks are. In Europe they would been robbed daily.

Right, he was lucky to bring a real one, he could shoot an airsoft gun twice and people would still not know.

33Baht weight is 495g just under half a kilogram, the equivalent of 15.9oz @ $1,800 per oz = $28,620
