Popular Post webfact
Picture: Thai Rath The head of Thailand's tourism authority said that when the final numbers are tallied half a million foreign tourists will have visited the country this year. Yutthasak Suphasorn said that the number had already been bolstered by 100,000 arrivals since the November 1st reopening. And 300,000 are waiting in the wings having logged on to register for the Thailand Pass. Meanwhile Thai Rath pressed him for what the emergence of the Omicron Covid-19 variant would be. Yutthasak said that there had been no slowdown as yet but it was early days in the reaction to the news. He suggested that it would take two to three days before they could be sure of the Omicron effect on Thai tourism. Pre-pandemic, in 2019, Thailand had around 40 million foreign tourists. Most of the 2020 arrivals came in January of that year before the full scale of the Covid impact became apparent. Popular Post tonysilly
I used to work in Krabi, our company has 4 restaurants. Its been almost two years since we closed. I feel bad for the guy who built and worked hard to give many Thai people a good Salary. You think anyone will help him or the staff we lost ?? You know they are not coming back because why quite the job they are now for a job you don't know if any customers will come. 1\2 Million tourist?? Yea! Right! So sad and <deleted> off at the same time. Why? Had to leave my Son while I go back to the States and make real money. Bless all who had to struggle during this time. 20

Maybe exaggerated a tad ???? but several stories recently conclude this ..actual "tourists" of the 100K probably do not exceed 30K. A sad situation for all the Thais involved in this sector but we live in strange times eh.

RichardColeman
I really do not think the issue is how many will come this year - though it wont be 300,000. People who want to get away for X-mas and December will always travel, but it will also include more expats and thais waiting to see what happened in November The issue will be them getting the predicted 300,000 in jan, Feb and March, before ramping up near 2.5 million a month to hit their golden predicted 14 million next year ! I seriously think the TAT should adjust that next years figure from 14 million to 4-5 million now, or look more daft next year - again
dlclark97
OK, 100,000 in November. Possibly but? Another 300,000 just chomping at the bit for the day they will get to Thailand. By my numbers, in the 31 days left this year or almost 9,700 arrivals per day. Good luck with that!
