Two Nigerians were arrested by Thai border security forces yesterday after they slipped across the Thai-Cambodian border into Ta Phraya district of the eastern province of Sa Kaeo, reportedly to apply for passports in Thailand.

One told Thai authorities that they opened a business in Vietnam in 2018, but subsequently moved to Cambodia after Vietnam was hit by the COVID-19 pandemic.

After operating a clothes store in Cambodia for two years, one of them lost their passport, but could not apply for a new onebecause there is no Nigerian consular office in Cambodia. So,both decided to come to Thailand.

Thais may be compassionate , but the immigration certainly are not , well , they stick to the rules quite vigerously .

These two are likely to get charged with illegal entry and put in ICU until they can get passports and then deported back to Nigeria , which could take many years for them to be able to do that , although it would quicken up the process if they have the funds to pay , if not , their new homes will be the ICU in BKK for the foreseeable future

Well you wrote 'good send them to Nigeria' on a post about people getting caught for not having a correct visa.

No I wrote good for people entering the country illegally, if one of them had lost his passport there are procedures like reporting it to the police and attempting to rectify the problem following the rules of law, however, Nigerians are not noted for following the rules of law, quite the opposite - hence the statement

Totally think the lost passport is bull, more likely he's been deported once already and is hiding his true identity.

Or the IDC , once they are out of Intensive Care.

Anything is possible...

But you can always tell when they're lying, it's when they open their mouths.

They would need to stay in hospital for 14 days in quarantine first before IDC

How did they not spot the guy all in white waiting in the bushes

to arrest them......????

???? Funniest nonsense I've read all day :cheesy: Thais lock them up in a crowded cage in the IDC.

Leally?

Nigeria usually win the Thai prison world cup. I think that is due to their footballing ability, rather than the number in jail.

The more of them in jail, the more players to choose from to form a team ,

Better than being sent back to Cambodia.

A Nigerian with money to open a business.

"I'm going to open a totally legit business in Vietnam, or possibly in Cambodia selling clothes"

Said no Nigerian ever.

Don't be ashamed of playing Minecraft ????

Maybe now would be a good time to give thanks for the great contributions of the Nigerian community to our society. Their peaceful and generous nature make them ideal neighbors, lending testimony to their exceptional family values and parenting skills unrivaled by any other culture. Their commitment to academic excellence enriches our schools and serves as an example to all who hope to achieve prominence as a people. Real estate values are fueled by the mix of Nigerians into an area due to their caring and respectful nature of these communities, an example of all they have achieved through their enthusiasm for self-improvement by hard work and a self-reliant can-do nature. We must not forget their abhorrence for crime and their dedication to observing the law. Without their industrious and creative drive, we would be poorer as a nation.

And here endeth today's lesson.

Best post for months.

I'm sure they could readily organise some successful GoFundMe scam if they didn't!????

This does, however, appear to highlight a potentially awkward situation for anyone, regardless of their nationality, who found themselves stuck in a particular country where their home country had no consular/diplomatic representation, and were in urgent need of a replacement passport (or emergency travel document) for whatever reason.
