The latest push for legalisation of casinos reaches the next step this week

I think most people in Thailand would not be opposed to the idea of having a few big casinos operating in a defined area . Pattaya . It will bring in big money , and that is just what most want .

If the Thai government is worried that it's citizens with their obvious addiction to gambling ( lottery ) will lose too much , they can easily find a way to restrict access ...

But , maybe , they come up with another suspicious poll that showes that 89% of Thai people are opposed to any form of legal gambling ... 55

????  The study will not turn up anything new except the people doing the study will make $$$$

Those in favor will paint a rosy picture jobs etc etc.  contribute to the economy every study I've seen  mirrors those that have been done before regardless of the location the names seem to be the only thing different.

Making it legal just puts the control under another hand the hand currently that provides very little to the masses before and during this pandemic. When it is legalized it will just create another market for those who have lost their illegal income in the end it just opens another can of worms.

The rich gets richer the poor gets poorer that is the real T.I.T.

A 60-member with 16 Deputy Chairmen chaired by the Deputy Transport Minister. Why Transport, not Min of Fin? Transport is Bhumjaithai: if BJT (Anuthin, Saksayam et al) want it to happen, probably more likely now than at any time in the past.

The prime minister and the government did not provide any policy or any special instruction on the issue since this is a matter for the legislative branch,” said Deputy Transport Minister, Atirat Ratanasate, who

Yeah, right…sure they didn’t.

“The matter must be studied in all aspects, including the pros and cons, impacts from abroad, and impacts from neighboring countries, “ Atirat said. “And the aim is for the study to be done within 90 days as assigned,” he added.

I'm wondering if this has already got a green light to manufacture a business that suits certain people in positions of benefit,  I can't see it having the attraction to stimulate tourism in any significant numbers.

Las Vegas it ain't.

I don't think I've ever seen anything move quite this fast here before!

They were talking about this in the 90s when I first came to live here---it was always going to be in Pattaya then---they even named the place they picked out--"....Ambassador City"   They now have over 150 Casino's in Cambodia--- In the days past -when you had to leave the country every 90 days--a U turn in Poi pet would suffice, It was famous for 2 things then....It beat Vargas for having 12 Casinos withing so many square yards---it beat Africa for having the highest rate of HIV in the world............................:omfg:

They could buy that huge massage parlour that's for sale in bkk and turn it into a casino. Then any winnings could be spent in neighbouring establishments to support the local economy.

Maybe that condo in Jomtien will be worth a few baht in the future !!!!!!!!!!!! LOL.

Yep, that huge block of unaccountably undeveloped oceanfront land between View Talay 5 and the Pattaya Park Tower would be a perfect casino location. Only way my Jomtien condo in VT5 will be worth more than half what I paid for it!

... well, I believe Bob The Builder (Dr. hc., aka. the nut in bkk) did push through his 'weed legalisation' at a similar pace, not surprisingly it was a ruse and isn't fish nor flesh as it stands now.

Its not a question of if ... but how many casino's can operate .... Bangkok, Phuket, Pattaya, Chiang Mai ...and perhaps more than one operator in each location.

Sadly corruption is endemic in Thailand so the real profits will end up in some Hiso's & a few corrupt p........ pockets which is the down side but overall it should benefit the country.

As long as Thai passports holders have to pay to enter I believe its a good thing for tourism which means employment and a revenue stream for Thailand
