My disgust goes out to all you "do gooders" out there who obviously have lived a sheltered life in your well educated "bubble' in nanny state countries where a formal education is the norm, Governments expected to be a safety net & a job pays a decent salary enabling 3 decent meals a day

Not saying you did not work hard, but the realities of  life in Thailand are that without at least a secondary school completion pretty impossible to get a "decent job" as you call it & would end up 

back on the farm eeking out an existence.

They have used their inititive & found work that gives them half a chance at life.

The hypocrisy behind many comments just reeks of the above.

Most are decent people fighting to help themselves get something a bit more than subsistance

Sex workers are human beings many of whom had been supporting families and children  This is a way of life which they have been forced into whether they like it or not and deserve sympathy and help in these difficult times.

Do gooders do good for their family, friends and society as a whole.  What purpose does prostitution serve?  You should reserve your disgust for the players who objectify and sexualize women and pray that your children never have to accept anything less in their own lives.

You're a self entitled <deleted> that has no idea what these woman have been through, making out like they have a choice. Firstly, not all of them had the luck of growing up with parents that could send them to University they are therefore stuck without a chance to get a decent job that will pay well enough for them to take care of their family (which is wrong in the first place, but thats the culture they have been born into) none if which was in their control. Not everyone is lucky enough to have the education they need in order to get a decent job as you stated, before you throw comments like that make sure you know the facts. Working in the bar also gives them the opportunity to end up with a farang that will take good care of them unlike the Thai wiskey drinking, lazy, wife beaters up country. Who impregnated them when they were 16 then ran away.

 

I'm not saying all of them are in this situation, some are probably just lazy, but I know that most of them would rather have a decent job, than have to have sex with a fat, stinking old, alcoholic farang which most of the time has exacly the same mind as you. If you dont already know how to speak Thai, then try learning it and having a conversation with some of these girls...

There has been a lot of comments about the sex workers and the fact they could get other jobs, I am sure they could they are not well educated so they would not get well pay jobs, a lot of the ladies have children to support so if they get a normal job they will not be able to afford education beyond what the government pay for then they will get a low paid job and the circle will go on , some of these ladies use the money to get a good education for there children and they will get a well paying job and they can pay for an education for there children and the circle is broken.

 

how many of the complainers got an education because there parents or government paid for it, 

a lot of the sex workers do the work for money to give a better life to there families we should look up to them for doing that not look down on them.

I never had parents and spent my life in council care in Liverpool but I never became something Im ashamed of......so you can rearrange that assumption to suit yourself.  Feel free to assume that all people from Liverpool are lesser than yourself if you wish but I know that morally I have lived a good life and it was not due to the help of others.  Maybe I am just a better man than most of the miscreants that populate Pattaya.

 

I might add that I also speak Thai fluently and have lived an honourable life here for 20 years.  Its just one more thing that I have taught myself without making excuses as to why I didnt better myself

Well that's a very long and difficult question to answer.

There are many and varied reasons why they can't or don't.

Education prevents some from gaining meaningful employment.

Access to employment is not as freely available as you would think, the government has for many years allowed sex workers to continue in their trade as it was an attraction for much needed resort/tourism income, and have not built meaningful employment opportunities for their future.

They have for many years fiddled with the education system touting higher education, but in truth it is a complete failure, some would say that's what they want... 

Some girls have the added burden of teen pregnancy and have children to support so they need the extra money.

Others have family members, parents, siblings, and kids to support...

Some are in education but work the evenings to pay for the University fees.

And yes some like the life style of laying on a beach all day, being wined & dined by gentlemen which saves them money, and then the added bonus of payment for services rendered, earning more in a week then they would in a month in factory, sitting at a sewing machine or in an office.

Take your pick.

Quite judgmental your post! I can have compassion with anyone that suffers from Covid. So you only have compassion for certain professions like medical doctors but not garbage men or prostitutes. Interesting, I need to agree with @seeyoujimmy here all the way!
