Police in Chiang Mai have fined a lance corporal 500 baht after he was caught on social media and shamed when parking on the sidewalk.

The officer from the Bhubing Rajanives station stopped in a restricted area approaching traffic lights near Chiang Mai university offices.

A mock/sarcastic post on "Chae Chiang Mai V" addressed to the regional chief came from a poster who said they only had 84,000 brain cells - but was this kind of parking right?

Shamed into action station chief Pol Col Manaschai Intheuan fined Phuwadol Kantha 500 baht and issued the receipt to the press.

He thanked the poster for making them aware of this infraction and said the officer may be disciplined further.

Daily News said without a hint of irony that the police were taking this seriously.

Geeze, it's tough being a cop in Thailand.

Can't park the patrol car where you want.

Common Practice and yesterday i saw a Cop riding a Scooter with no Helmet and another riding the wrong way down a Public Footpath.   If you took pictures of every wrongdoing by Cop's you would wear your Camera out in two weeks !

Go to beach road Pattaya, plenty park in cross walk, block handicap entrance to side walk, ride mopeds on side walks, dive the wrong way in traffic.   500 thb.  Charge bigher fines,, make them pay, and things would change.

It says not exceeding 5,000 baht.  500 baht does not exceed that.

You should be able to make a visa arrest seeing that we are not citizens.

What i don't get is why park like that? The road is wide, doesn't look busy, so absolutely no reason not to park correctly. The only reason that I can think of is that it saves a step or two on the walk to and from the shop!

Was this a Fraudulent slip ? LOL:cheesy:

Only Thailand could make Scroll Wheeling on the sidewalk illegal.

Scroll Wheelers of the world should unite against this authoritarian mandate.

Just before the pandemic in Bangkok, this motorbike came down the pavement towards me, I stopped him and refused to move, he opened his jacket to reveal a tight brown uniform, yes I let him go.

Bloody lucky, you could have got your head blown off.

Why bother obstructing, it's Thailand, that's what they do here, just get of the way.

Yes, get out of the way and step on to the road and risk being hit by a car etc so some moron riding a motorbike on the pavement can just ride past.
