Im writing this post to see if anyone else has similar symptoms and can shed light on my digestive system.

In the past I’ve had to avoid eating fatty foods as I would be woken up with severe upper body pain- dr said it was probably just heart burn after I told him what I had for dinner.

Last night we had a delicious pork knuckle roast at a restaurant and I ate the pork crackling skin / fat and a lot of the meat of course. I got home and cognitive functions were groggy. I didn’t feel to well actually

At 3 in the morning I woke up with fever and heart palpitations. My gut felt sick but no upper body pain/ heart burn.

Recently I had a colonoscopy and had 6 large polyps cut out but no issues back from the lab.

A month or so ago I remember eating some deep fried foods one night and I again woke up with hot sweats and racing heart.

I have minor heart issues- cardiomyopathy and mitral valve prolapse. But why is my body not coping with fatty proteins?

So obviously I cannot eat fatty foods anymore. But I remember in my 30s and 40s I could eat whatever I want with no issues. So does it mean I have something wrong or just old age?

thanks

I know that I could also eat everything into my 40's.  Now I'm older fatty foods definitely now can really effect me, especially when I'm sleeping.

A night out I usually take fatomide 20 mg.  You can get it at pharmacies in Big cities.  Otherwise you need to go to a private hospital.  Mine was like 6 baht a pill at Udon Thani Bangkok Hospital.

You may want to consult a doctor just to make sure its nothing more serious.

Bad time to go to hospital now though.  Anytimes a bad time really.

Good luck.

I had this, it was eventually diagnosed as gallstones.

I was also overweight.

Solved by exercising more, eating less and exercising every day.

As I got older I had slight discomfort after eating fatty foods.

It's a lot better now, after fatty foods I eat a Cucumin pill ........

https://www.lazada.co.th/products/i2499065615-s8831241291.html

Less than 200bht for 500 pills delivered.

It works for me anyway.

Way cheaper than the anti-acid drinks that didn't work so well.

"Miracid" is a Thai version of "Omeprazole" which decreases stomach acid production.  It is an acid-reflux (heartburn) preventative so it must be taken well  prior to large meals.  It is usually less than B100/10 tablets.  Sold OTC at most pharmacy's.

Not bad to keep a bottle of "Magnesia Milk", sold in pharmacy's and 7/11 on hand.  Really helps when the burning acid comes up but if heartburn persists, see a Doctor.

because a nicely grilled German-style pork knuckle is absolutely delicious!

I also have a food-related problem, fatty foods, sugar and alcohol can make my heart rate go up like crazy. doesn't happen if I take beta blockers before.

Famotidine is an H2-receptor antagonist, maybe fine back 30 years ago but in 2021, omeprazole, a proton pump inhibitor as recommended by @dddave would be more appropriate.

To be used with caution under medical supervision.

omeprazole

OmeprazoleI I find  works great for the two week regiment.  But after 3 or 4 days its bad again.  You need a few months between regiments.

Famotidine I can use if occasionally on flare ups.

Great to have on hand.

Zantac was great until they found it contained some cancer causing ingredients.

Always good to have some antacin, thats been around 100 years.

Your smart move would be to go and get a blood test (complete metabolic panel) through a "good" doctor who truly understands nutrition (most don't have a clue!).

Contrary to what most people believe, the body not only tolerates fats well at any age, but actually thrives on them as an important source of fuel.  As counter-intuitive as it may seem, when fats are not tolerated well, the answer is NOT to cut down on fats, but to look at your carbohydrate consumption...believe it or not!

Excessive carbohydrates in the diet is the most prevalent cause of a dysfunctional metabolic state.  Excessive carbohydrates in the diet (especially those in heavily processed foods) can seriously interfere with healthy fat metabolism.

In. healthy individual, the body is capable of using BOTH glucose and fat as fuel, but if you habitually over indulge in carbs, your body gradually loses the ability to metabolize fats efficiently, so it's no wonder that as many people age, they also develop metabolic issues, and what you describe is a perfect example of this.

So, a metabolic panel may provide clues of this, and most importantly, you want to be sure and have the panel include an insulin test, not just blood glucose.

If your insulin levels are unusually high, the answer to your problems is very simple...cut down on carbs, and you will be surprised how quickly your issues resolve themselves!

Symptoms are leaning towards a gallbladder problem.

As above. Distress after eating fatty foods is very typical of gall bladder problem..you should see a GI specialist and have an ultrasound of liver/gall bladder.

And I'd give whatever doctor it was who said "heartburn" before a miss from here on.

The doctor who initially prescribed mine said take one every day.

A second doctor said only take when symptomatic, which is odd when these are preventive not curative.

But I only really have the problem after a few drinks or one of those blue pills. So now I just take one in the morning prior to the event.
