Popular Post ASEAN NOW News Posted December 31, 2021 Popular Post Posted December 31, 2021 A top Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) official is now predicting tourism revenue will reach only 50% of 2019’s level in 2022, and only 80% in 2023 as the country continues is likely to make risk management a priority. Yuthasak Supasorn (File photo) TAT Gov. Yuthasak Supasorn said this week that it could take years for the tourism industry to recover from the coronavirus pandemic. In 2022, TAT targets Thailand’s total income from tourism at only 1.5 trillion-baht, half of that recorded in 2019. Even in 2023, Yuthasak said, tourism revenue will reach only 2.4 trillion baht, or 80% of the pre-pandemic level. While 2022 may see only twenty million tourists, Yuthasak said the TAT is targeting more “quality” tourists, industry-speak for high-spending visitors. TAT Gov. Yuthasak Supasorn said it would take years for the tourism industry to recover from the coronavirus pandemic. Forecasts for tourism are almost impossible to forecast, however Yuthasak admitted that the unpredictability of the pandemic and its successive waves of coronavirus variants creates much uncertainty. This year will see only 10 percent of pre-pandemic tourism spending and, in 2022, Thailand will continue to make risk management the top priority. That means the best-case scenario for 2022 will be eighteen million tourists and 1.9 trillion baht in revenue. About 160 million baht more will come from domestic travel. The worst-case scenario is just ten million international tourists and only 1.3 trillion baht in revenue. Only 122 million baht more will come from domestic travel. After two years of low tourist figures, the hospitality industry is now going to have to rely on domestic tourism. However, most Thais tend to only travel at weekends or during National holidays, which will make it extremely hard for hotels to break even. 7

Popular Post ThailandRyan Posted December 31, 2021 Popular Post Posted December 31, 2021 Optimistic bets being taken by those in TAT, what happens when predictions like this claptrap do not materialize....oh right nothing. 5
Popular Post GeorgeCross Posted December 31, 2021 Popular Post Posted December 31, 2021 19 million tourists with high season all but scrapped?? not.a.chance. 3
Popular Post Gsxrnz Posted December 31, 2021 Popular Post Posted December 31, 2021 In another thread I offered to eat my flip-flops if 2022 incoming tourists reach 2 million. I'm raising the stakes and am now offering to slam my personal appendage in a car door - repeatedly. 14

mikebell Posted December 31, 2021 Posted December 31, 2021 If the ever optimistic, super=imaginative TAT are only predicting 50% recovery in two years, then we're doomed. 1
Popular Post Misterwhisper Posted December 31, 2021 Popular Post Posted December 31, 2021 He just cannot desist, can he? It's almost like an obsessive-compulsive disorder that causes Yuthasak to frequently spurt out ludicrous predictions that - probably depending on his mood - appear to alternate between absolutely ridiculous uber-optimistic figures one day and more pessimistic ones the next. Yet they are all pulled out of thing air, of course. Just put a cork in it for a while, Yuthasak! 5 1
worgeordie Posted December 31, 2021 Posted December 31, 2021 TAT slowly facing reality , not quite there yet, with predicting up to 80 % regards worgeordie 2
daveAustin Posted December 31, 2021 Posted December 31, 2021 There will ‘ONLY’ be 20M in 2022? And ‘QUALITY’ ones at that ???????????? Next… 2
daveAustin Posted December 31, 2021 Posted December 31, 2021 Tourism Authority of Thailand predicts only 50-80% tourism recovery by 2024 There should be a 3 in there somewhere, bar the last digit.
Jerno Posted December 31, 2021 Posted December 31, 2021 Wild predictions again. Trillion this...trillion that. Sheesh! It's getting really tiresome. Talking head goof, please shut the H up.

Cherrytreeview Posted December 31, 2021 Posted December 31, 2021 I saw this clown being interviewed on the daily Sky business programme. When bars and entertainment where closed, he stated everything was opened. "It's not all open up yet but is it?" asked the presenter. "Yes, everything open" the TAT guy replied. Knowing the facts on the ground at that time, I wouldn't believe a word that comes out of TAT or anything a Thai agency said. 1
NorthernRyland Posted December 31, 2021 Posted December 31, 2021 So was it worth it? COVID eventually got in (with predicable results) and the number of deaths will be soon exceeded by the yearly road accidents, which would be avoidable if the police did their job. IMO Thailand's COVID response is the worst disaster the country has faced since at least the 97 stock market crash.
spidermike007 Posted December 31, 2021 Posted December 31, 2021 Very optimistic. No more than 5 million arrivals a year, five years from now. And no more than 7 million a year within our lifetime. Nearly all lower to middle income. Thailand is being forgotten. It is the Pratin decimation.

So, 20 million tourists will be the 'best-best-case' or 'extra-super-best-case' scenario? Or, perhaps, they figure only 2 million domestic trips for the whole year, as the locals prefer not to travel?
kevc Posted December 31, 2021 Posted December 31, 2021 Not surprised when they come out and say they don't want the old tourists back they only want rich ones.

When this annoying virus is under control and we then learn to live with it, people will want to travel like crazy. So if Thailand drop all their restrictions, mandatory masks, tests on arrival, quarantine, special insurance and open up everything, then i can't see why tourists will not still want to come to Thailand. It's still a wonderful country. I know i will be back, but not until everything is open and most of their restrictions are gone. The only one i personally would accept is a mandatory insurance. 1

Totally agree. The only problem is all the hoop jumping they have put in place, plus Test-Wait-Maybe-Go-Hospital on arrival and departure. I think it will be a while, with the Thai Pass system infrastructure in place, that passport stamping at BKK will be reinstated. How many times a year will the sausage fest sex desperados even come with this hoop jumping? I will be so fed up, even i might risk it to get to Thailand this time next year. But do it 2 or 3 times a year? No chance. 1
Sir Dude Posted December 31, 2021 Posted December 31, 2021 As usual, the officials at the TAT go to work, have the daily brief of fictional figures and fantasy, take the blue pill, and go out to see the press.
