Omicron guidelines set, mild and asymptomatic cases to be isolated at home or state facilities

Thailand’s Medical Services Department has issued a set of guidelines to deal with COVID-19 Omicron variant cases, to ensure the infected are provided with safe and timely treatment. The department has divided Omicron cases into asymptomatic, probable cases and mild cases, who can be isolated at home or in community facilities, and the severe cases who need to be hospitalised.

 

Symptoms of infection by the Omicron variant cases are not much different from those by other variants. Most patients develop symptoms related to infection of the upper respiratory tract, such as fever, sore throat and coughing, with a mild lung infection in some cases. These patients will be given anti-viral Favipiravir tablets and, after three days, they will begin to feel better and subsequently recover.

 

According to the department’s protocol, asymptomatic, probable cases or mild cases, who are not at risk of other associated diseases and with normal lungs, will be isolated at home or at facilities designated by the state.

It would be helpful to see this as official government policy.

Have checked the Thailand Medical Services Department, and there is no mention of this.

As of this morning, (and I know this article has only just been released within the last hour or so), clinics were still insisting on sending PCR positive cases to hospital for 10 days.

The government, or Health Minister, or whoever is running this, needs to get behind  this policy change ASAP.

I know of infected persons, at least 2 thinking it's ok to pop down 7 eleven or go and grab some take out food. I personally had a yakking at them. This is the problem with home isolation, not only in Thailand but everywhere.

As they have been saying, everyone in this world is going to get it, so let's get it over and done with so we can all get our lives back to normality, and F these useless controlling MF governments off !

Saw that posted else where it predates omicrom hasnt gone anywhere calm down.

 

Its 2022, time for common sense to replace "abundance of caution" for a milder strain of COVID.

Thailand will have to adjust because it eventually hits supply chain and services just like in the US isolation down to 5 days cuts 85% risk

The vax is also part of it reduces risk of serious illness

Time to and take back lives and livelihoods for the sake of mental health.

Do the PCR tests performed in Thailand automatically identify the SARS-Cov-2 variants of persons who test positive?

Appreciate this will take a time to roll out, and consistency is not translatable in Thai, but a nod in the right direction for sure.

I imagine if you don't have a suitable home, like a person on holiday at a hotel, they will end up in ASQ or community care facilities?

That was first identified some weeks back, before Omicron, since then Omicron has as we know overtaken all variants including this one.

i don't mind acctually, it is a step in the right direction, but what will propably kill me is the floral design of the beds.

UK today 218,000 cases, 45 deaths  - survival rate on that ( if stays same) is 99.97%. up. It's all nonsense now. 33% of all those going into uk hospitals with covid are going in due other things than covid now but recorded as covid hospital admissions. Ttoal scare mongering and pingdemic foolishness

it is becoming increasingly clear that the only treatment required for omicron is a box of tissues provided of course that you have had 2 shots of an effective vaccine and don't get run over by a bus after a positive test (UK)

let me correct you but I do get your point

there were already 9000 people in hospitals in the UK before omicron who were actually ill, 900 odd since omicron have been detected in hospital - 45 deaths of people who were detected with omicron - actual cause of death not clear, mainstream media need to stop with the sensationalism reporting and stop trying to make news instead of reporting news, something that has been going on now for a long time with sinister agenda's throw in

Exactly, 2 of my 3 grown adult children in the US picked up Omicron.  The daughter, 22, cleared it in 3 days after coming down with it and testing positive.  Son, in the military, 24, Has had it now for 7 days and he says it is like a bad case of the flu, the worst he has ever had, and one that he can not shake.  He has been isolated from his unit and is taking medicines prescribed.  Just this morning, our time here, he started feeling better.  So yes as with any cold, flu, virus or whatever, even being vaccinated it can affect folks differently.  Both of them are vaccinated with Pfizer.  Daughter just yesterday was boosted with Moderna.  The oldest a surgical ICU Nurse Practitioner in a major hospital is seeing the majority of patients presenting with it as an upper respiratory infection and inhalers are being prescribed to assist.  Those more serious are the younger ones and those not vaccinated.  She has even seen those vaccinated and elderly being affected to the point of needing to have a respiratory therapist give them breathing treatments with medication using the BIPAP machines to force the medication down into the lungs to help them breathe better.  She says that as busy as they are this is no way near as severe as the Delta wave with folks being immediately put on ventilators and heading straight to ICU's.

Strange. Every other article that I have read about omicron has said that the symptoms differ from other variants in that fever is specifically NOT a symptom. And yet in Thailand they specifically say that omicron symptoms are the same and DO include fever.

yes maybe if a person in already seriously ill before getting it, I am not a covid skeptic but I am becoming an omicron skeptic increasing by the day
