Would you just as soon get Omicron (and get it over with)?

Well I agree, accusations of trolling are not acceptable without good evidence to back them up.

I do still caution  everyone on sharing personal information and especially anything to do with people you care about. I’ve too often seen such information abused.

IMO the only action to take if one has good evidence of trolling is to use the report function. Surely that is one of the reasons for its existence.

Slagging other posters off does nothing but lead to bickering and deletions.

I enjoy the personal aspect of many posts and I hope it continues. I, and I'm sure many, come on here for more than just boring facts.

So long as people follow forum rules it should be OK to do so, within limits.

Sometimes I think I would just as soon contract Omicron, stay at home for 5 days with no or mild symptoms, and then be free to go everywhere without risk (especially without the risk of infecting others). I've been double vaccinated with Astra Zeneca and had a Moderna booster. So I think I'm unlikely to get serious symptoms.

As one of the doctors quoted in this forum said, Omicron can be thought of as a live vaccine. Maybe there should be locations where we can go to contract the virus quickly and easily.

Agree with that.

However, as no one in the area I live in has covid of any variety, it's highly unlikely I'll contract it any time soon.

I'd certainly rather have omicron than delta, and even in NZ it's likely that most of us will, eventually, get one or another version. I can't see how we can avoid it indefinitely, given they want to open the country to overseas visitors some time.

These sort of comments highlight a stubborn lack of willingness to accept critical thought.

I know people who have been in ICU *(with Covid), I’ve worked with them, they are fine now.

I have spent one night in ICU....   Weeks later I was skiing,  years later I’m here, fit, healthy, wife, son, still playing lots of sports (mid-40’s).

My Father in law was resuscitated last year (CPR) after collapsing with low blood pressure... he’s fine now (relatively) and visits along with grandmum to see his grandson a few times per week.

Wearing your DNR and refusals to be admitted to ICU ‘statments of pride’ just seem like brainless trolling... that is the realm of unrecoverable illness and trauma,.... not recoverable illnesses which Covid-19 can be, has been and is for many many patients.

Expand

You should avoid commenting on personal cases that you know nothing about. You definitely know nothing about me or my reason for having a DNR.

As for brainless trolling, you should look in the mirror sometime.

You've mentioned your DNR and refusal to enter ICU numerous times and wear that opinion with a sense of fearlessness and pride....    Of course your choice....

I wanted point out that there are millions of people who have been resuscitated and spent time in ICU who now live perfectly normal lives.....     In the context of this thread it seems you are ‘using this badge’ to attempt to score an argumentative victory rather than bringing any covid risks and survivability facts into the fray.

Well... IF we could pick a flavour wouldn’t it be ‘vaccination’ and prevention in the first place.

There is this idea now that vaccines do not prevent contracting Covid-19 which is untrue. Vaccines are less effecive but not wholly ineffective.

I’d rather have the vaccines and no Covid-19 at all, including Omicron at all.... Its not as if Omircon is going to protect us from having someting worse down the line or contracting Covid-19 again (omicron variant or otherwise) down the road.

So... as far as Omicron is concerned I’d prefer to avoid it... Just like a common cold or the flu - its something I dont want and its something I’ll try to avoid.

I hope you ain't saying that vaccination will prevent anyone from contracting covid. As I understand it, that's not the case.

How else are all those fully vaccinated in hospital with covid?

Nope... I’m saying what I wrote above... (key points highlighted for you)...

Vaccines are less effective against the Omicron variant of Covid-19 (and more effective against earlier variants) - and while there are plenty of break through infections that does not mean vaccines are ineffective.

Vaccines are still effective against transmission for a lot of people and highly effective against hospitalisations from all variants of Covid-19.

------

This ‘all or nothing’ - black vs white approach to the success of vaccines has been the backbone of a lot of ‘anti-vaccine’ arguments.

Because there are breakthrough infections there seems to be an argument amongst anti-vaxxers that vaccines are now 100% ineffective.... this is incorrect....

i.e. IF for the Omicron variant a vaccine is less effective than the 80% it was against protection from Delta it could still be 50% effective and protect 50% of people from contracting Omicron - it's still effective, just not ‘as’ effective.

Arguing that there are vaccinated people in hospital completely ignores the bigger picture facts.

It's the same as arguing that 500 people died in motorcycle accidents, they were wearing their helmets so helmets must be ineffective...    the bigger picture would be that helmets saved more people from serious injury and death (I know that’s a strawman perspective, but I use the example to highlight how the cherry picking of facts and vaccinated hospitalisations is incorrectly being used to support an anti-vax argument).

"Would you just as soon get Omicron (and get it over with)?"

If I got Omicron, nothing would be got over with unless the infection killed me.

I agree, but the forum would be very dull if we only stuck to the facts and I dare say some of us just wouldn't bother any more.

I don't mind if other posters discuss personal details I put in my posts, but I do object to being insulted or called a troll.

There is never ever an excuse for being personally rude or insulting any other poster on this forum.

Then why do you happily insult others who are proud to be woke socially aware?

What would be over ? I'm double Pfizer vaccinated and Moderna booster . I'm as well protected as having virtual sex with wearing a condom but getting it doesn't solve anything . If i get it , i'm prob just a number in a file somewhere , and then what ? Does it mean you can travel anywhere ?, no quarantines? , no paperworks or special forms ? ,no extra special insurances ? bars open ?  no extra tests ?

If you answer yes on this questions , yes give me it , but you know as well as i do that it isn't the case . You are not THE man which needs to be infected to solve anything , and neither am i . It is the society and the politics . As long as a big amount of people are in hospital with Covid , no matter what variant or mutation , then the politics won't change .

In this vieww , Omicron can be a game changer , since it is highly transmission but lower virulent . This together with the vaccines make you not go hospital and while you are nothing more then a number , any number not going in hospital is 1 and if there is enough like that , then it is all over and solved .

I mention that to make it plain that I don't go around being fearful of a virus that can kill me, lest some might call me hypocrite for advocating the Swedish approach but intending to use every avenue to survive.

Survivability is not even an objective.

Western world is chock a block of those making heartless corporations rich in the aged industry, and I would prefer not to be one of them, if that makes my situation any more clear.

Given the ferocity that the vaccine is pursued as the "only" means of avoiding hospital, when the number of infected that go to hospital is apparently not a high %, and of course deaths an even smaller %, one could be forgiven for wondering just who stands to benefit financially.

So a company making money providing medication for the sick is your key factor, hmmmmm, sounds like you don't buy anything then, or watch sport where individuals earn horrendous amounts of money, or even buy petrol, and viagra is straight out the window.  ????

I certainly don't watch sport played by so called "professionals". I even gave up on the All Blacks when they stopped being amateur.

BTW, you quoted the wrong post. The one you quoted was about the aged industry exploiting old people, not big pharma companies.

However, I'd have been quite happy not to have made big pharma any richer, but not being vaccinated means one can't even go to the movies, so I had it when an alternative to Pfizer came available just to get the vaccine passport.

Glad to hear it.....????
