Once we agreed with my friend how much fresh water from air conditioners goes into drain uselessly in whole world. Now I assembled utilisation prototype on my balcony) It gives about 20l of water per day (18k BTU aircon works 24/7) One time in two days I drain the tank for garden watering (I have big balcony and virtually a jungle on it) Plants reacted to new water type by explosive growth of new leaves - that means aircon’s condensate better for them than tap water. This is not about economy - just eco-fun) Failed to connect washing machine to it, because low pressure do not allow to start the pump automatically.

I used to put watering can under my drains, and the main AC would almost fill up everyday, about 3-5L a day easily, from the ACs.

Yes, for small water demand no need any special  “system” )

I pay Bht 35 for 20 litres of bottled water. What does it cost to run an 18000BTU A/C 24 hours a day?

I do not run aircon for water extraction))), just for my comfort. Pay about 1800 bat/month and very happy

Wouldn't recommend drinking the water, unless you know your system is squeaky clean, or treat it before drinking.

 

But waste not want not ... it's there no matter, as our AC is usually on 24/7, especially dry season.

Save the Planet ... ????  

 

Also means the difference of monthly water bill being 150 baht or 151 a month.  After 55 months, I get a free beer ????????  If they'd ever restock ... ????

Quite stupid in this time of the year to let the aircon run 24/7? Do you never go out of your room? And what are you doing in hot season? Install a walk-in freezer in your room? Jeez, some people should not live in a tropical country....

Might turn it off overnight, if cool enough.  I leave it on most of time though, if just for the dehumidifier effect.  Also for the dog, as I don't take her everywhere all the time.

 

Trust me, she demands her AC.  Come back from morning walk, and she is straight away, up the steps to the AC'd room.   Today she didn't even wait for me to take the leash off ... ????

I go out for 1-2 hours a day - absolutely no reason to shut down aircon. I have spacy studio, intake air ventilation with IQAir filter installed, very nice view - just a heaven for home sitter) 1,5 hour of beach or fitness every day enough outdoor activity for me. I understand, to sit in a dusty bar talking with old drunkards, breathing smog from BKK is much more interesting, but I am not socialised person)

For short even long periods, you probably shouldn't anyway.  Less strain & cost to cool off the room again vs just keeping it at 28-30 while out, and adjust down as needing when returning.

 

Coming in from the heat & humidity, dry 30 feels very cool.  Hate coming home to hot house.

Unusual choice rather than stupid, up here so far this year we haven’t needed the AC for more than 1 night. But that’s our choice house design and location.

it's essentially distilled water, if your pipes and evaporator fins are clean enough

I use it to fill washer fluid in my cars and it doesn't leave any streaky residue on the windshield unlike tap water

if you're certain it's clean I'd probably fill radiator with it too

When in UT, we didn't use too much in cool season.  Damn chilly at times, when in the teens.  Outside at night here it's cool, though bedroom still seems to retain some heat.  AC at night is more just a dehumidifier.  Daytime, brutal heat, and poor construction.

 

0830 and already 24 / feels like 28,, headed toward 33 / feels like 35+.   AC set on 27, so more like dehumidifier at present, and makes a world of difference.

Similar but not the same....there was this New Zealander who found by using a large propane burner, the cooling effect from the gas bottle could be used to cool down his beer in a cooler box.

So he set the whole shebang up in his basement but sadly found he had to drink the whole carton of beer to compensate the heat from the large propane burner. ????
