An alleged intoxicated driver was injured after his truck crashed into road barriers and overturned in the Phan Thong district over the past weekend.

 

Emergency responders arrived at the scene to find a overturned pickup truck lying on the road. The driver, Mr. Anek Phonkratok, 39, was stuck inside the cab. Rescue workers helped him out but he refused to go to a hospital or get medical assistance. His employees took him from the scene.

So a person risks the lives of others, breaks the law, and yet police let his employers remove him from the scene! Incredulous, he should have been in a cell until morning after a blood or breath test.

The Groundhog Day

Isn't there a law about fleeing the scene of an accident?  How did the 'employees' help him leave?  Why did the emergency responders free him before the arrival of the police?  All the above are rhetorical questions to suggest there is very little 'serving & protecting' going on in Pattaya.

Flush out the evidence quickly?

It should be mandatory that people involved in accidents get tested for alcohol. Sure there are cases where this does not apply but if you make it mandatory you can punish police officers if they don't do it.

 

Now I understand that punishing police is hard but it could work especially in more high profile cases.

so his employer was aware he was drunk ????  unbelievable ???  in the west this would never be allowed ,what did the police say to this move ???

So this story show that Thailand will change, but you all have to wait 50 years for the change to happen.

A lot of Farangs would be caught out at closing time if the Police breath tested all drivers after the bars close, nearly every Farang I know takes the chance, should be a mass testing at closing time around the bar areas, 100's of Police and The Army, no escape, all roads blocked, then deport the lot of em and ban for 10 years, after paying a 100,000 Baht fine or 6 Months Prison.

That would stop the Farangs from drink driving.

 

Thais are a different matter, but the Farangs that drink and drive , it's easy to stop with draconian sentencing.

I have no particular issue with your comments except to say once upon a time something like this was going on. Road checks set up at 3am and people tested..... but as usual it became a money making exercise, and if you could produce a substantial wad, you were let go there and then, maybe to continue in/on your vehicle. If not, you were taken to the station for the night and once in the system you would be processed.... I recall some who had paid their 'fine' and thought they were done with it, also were told they were now being taken to immigration to have extensions cancelled.... or they could find 10k more.....

This thread is about a Thai driver and you seem to have created a distraction to particularly 'farangs'.....

And you just added to it, yeah I know all about the old Alcohol stops you mention.

 

Long gone are the days that if you fell off your motorcycle at the traffic lights cos so drunk, the Police would help you back on it and advise you to go home.

 

If a girl was 30+ and working in a bar, she would either be the mamasan or the cleaner and 45 Kgs was fat.
