Opinion Russian Teacher to Thais: Drop ‘Farang’ if 'Ni Hao' Offends
It would take you what 30 seconds or so to teach her the difference. Thai dont use farang to describe any others but white people. Generally speaking. As has been pointed out they don't call chinese farang. When the word is supposed to mean foreigner and a Chinese person is a foreigner. Well it doesn't really hold up. I'm not saying farang is being used with malice in all cases. However it is often unwillingly used as such. Taking into consideration that it's generally used for white people and not really to describe a foreigner. -

Urgent Inspection Launched at Tân Sơn Nhất Airport Amid Widespread Delays
File photo for reference only The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam has initiated an urgent inspection at Tân Sơn Nhất Airport in Ho Chi Minh City following numerous complaints from passengers stranded for hours due to severe flight delays and cancellations. These disruptions, mostly affecting domestic flights, have caused significant passenger frustration, with many claiming they were not notified in advance. In response to the uproar, the aviation authority announced on Tuesday that an inspection team will focus on evaluating ground services at the country’s busiest airport over the next five days. This action comes as passengers of budget airline Vietjet express dissatisfaction over frequent schedule changes—flights delayed multiple times before eventual cancellations, without clear communication or accessible customer service. One poignant story that gained attention on social media involved a 77-year-old grandmother who, along with her family, endured a harrowing wait. Scheduled for an 8:30 AM departure on April 21 from HCM City to Huế, they faced repeated boarding and deplaning, culminating in a cancelled flight by the early hours of April 22. Passenger experiences shared online indicate that flight disruptions were widespread on April 21, affecting nearly all domestic routes. Reports highlighted delays of one to two hours for flights bound for locations such as Hải Phòng and Hà Nội. An airline representative told VietNamNet that a surge in holiday travel ahead of the upcoming national holidays on April 30 – May 1 led to increased scheduling challenges. Compounding these issues was the transitioning of flights from Terminal T1 to the new Terminal T3 at Tân Sơn Nhất Airport. Moreover, afternoon thunderstorms over Nội Bài Airport further impacted flights, complicating departures for several provinces, including those from HCM City. Additional adjustments arose as Tân Sơn Nhất managed airport operations amid rehearsals for the 50th anniversary of national reunification. Ongoing schedule changes were reported for April 22, with a representative noting that between 8:00 AM and 9:30 AM, further flight adjustments were expected. This has created a ripple effect, causing additional short-term disruptions across numerous routes. The aviation authority’s inspection seeks to address these pressing operational challenges, aiming to improve communication and service standards for affected passengers.
