BANGKOK, (TNA) – Saudi Arabia lifts its 17-year-long ban on Thai poultry thanks to the prime minister's visit to restore bilateral relations, according to the agriculture minister.

Chalermchai Sri-on, the minister of agriculture and cooperatives, said Sathana Kashemsanta na Ayudhya, Thai charge d'affaires to Riyadh, and Apichart Prasertsud, director Thai Trade Center in Jedda, learned from Sami Saad N Al Sager, vice president for operations sector. of the Saudi Food and Drug Authority, that Saudi Arabia already ended its ban on its import of Thai poultry and related products.

The decision responded to the Department of Livestock Development of Thailand's Minutes of the Health and Technical Requirement for the Import of Poultry Meat and its Products sent to SFDA and the official visit to Saudi Arabia by Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha in late January.

Curious asks...where have the Saudi been getting their chooks from for the last 17 years?

Mostly Sadia chickens from Brazil. More recently a lot of Saudi produced chicken.

Many years ago arriving in Jeddah from Bkk on a Saudia flight an arab in front of me at customs had a fresh uncooked chicken in his luggage.

Customs started ranting about it not being halal and had a Filipino worker chop it to bits on the customs desk then throw it in a bin.

So chicken prices will go up as well. Covid increased Pad Thai from 35 to 50 Baht, the Ukraine war increased a case of soda from 115 to 155 Baht and the Saudis now support chicken.

What's next?

Does that mean that chicken prices for the domestic market will raise even higher? Chicken breast in Big C is getting close to double what it was a year ago!
