The Thai Ministry of Public Health has predicted that there will be a maximum average of 50,000 COVID-19 cases a day after the Songkran holidays next week, about 3,000 new cases of lung inflammation and 150 daily fatalities, if public cooperation in complying with safety measures remains at the present level.

The scenario, as painted by the Public Health Ministry, is that, by April 19th, the number of new infections will surge to 50,000 a day and, in early May, the number of lung inflammation cases will be around 3,000 a day, with about 900 cases requiring ventilators, and the death toll will be around 150 per day.

In a worst case scenario, in which restrictions are further eased, public cooperation is lacking and/or inoculation is lower than 200,000 doses per day, cases of lung inflammation could double to 6,000 a day, with 1,700 cases needing ventilators and the daily fatalities estimated at 250.

0.5% of people infected with covid will die?   That is life, son.  Disease happens and people can take their own precautions without forcing others.

Whether it's 280 a day for a month or 100 a day for 6 months, it's gonna happen and destroying the economy isn't gonna help the total numbers now that pretty much everyone who wants the vaccine has access to it.  The hospitals aren't at their limits.  Flattening the curve is just dragging it out.

Dude, we need to do everything we can to ensure not even 1 life is lost to covid.  I don't care if we lose more lives to govt reaction to covid than covid itself.  As long as covid deaths are 0, we will be happy.  If we crash the economy and destroy peoples lives, that is ok as long as covid kills NO ONE.

Save granny and get double fully "vaccinated" with 2 doses and get 2 more boosters to become fully "vaccinated" again.

Rubbish.

The provinces don't have access,

They have provided the tourist hotspots, Bangkok and Pattaya, the rest are begging.

The fully vaccinated rate in Thailand is 72%, well above the US fully vaccinated rate of 66%.

And nobody in the USA is going wanting for vaccines.  We can get them at almost any corner drug store, Walmart, etc.  That leads me to believe there's about 30% who just won't take the jab.

If anyone isn't vaccinated, it's generally because they have chosen not to be or not to make the effort.  I hope they're not expecting the entire economy to stay on hold for another year while they sit home and wait for it to come to them.

The US isn't the poster child for vaccinations. Australia is waay above that and so are most other developed countries. The international standard for opening up the country is 85% fully vaccinated. Thailand has a way to go to get there.

I always doubt the accuracy of these numbers. Given the repuutation for money and scams etc, how many are  real and how many are just reported as positive to cash in on what follows ,the overcharged quarantine, tests etc , insurance claims and so on. Its a racket.

Likewise, how many are sat not bothering because everyone else has bothered, they ve all been vacinated so I dont need to attitude.

Its a mess !  Whichever way you want to look at it.

Thailand will never get to 85% at the current trajectory.  In that respect, it's a lot more similar to the USA than Aus.

Edit:  And I'd add that the USA and Thailand are similar to each other, and very different than Aus when it comes to strong arming compliance.  I still contend that 30% won't take the jab voluntarily.  They will if they're forced...

Our results demonstrated that 90.2% of the participants were either willing to vaccinate or were already vaccinated.

As vaccine hesitancy and refusal ratio were found to be substantially lower than in a previous study for Thailand and other countries, public authorities should poll the public to identify vaccine-hesitant populations and their reasoning and provide appropriate information directly to the general public.

Taking a survey and taking a jab are 2 different things.

On April 6, the vaccination rate was 72.1%  On March 6, it was 71.3%.  That's 0.8% for the month.  At that rate, it will take another 16 months to get to 85% fully vaccinated, but even that rate is decreasing.  It'll asymptotically approach some number and it'll be less than 85% fully vaccinated.

They can't wait another 16 months to open up to tourism.

Didn't they report appropriate a month ago that Thailand would stop publishing Covid figures from April onwards,,  or are the figures there to fear the population & so they can continue with the Emergency Decree...

Keep the scare tactics up. Keep the people in a hypnotic state of submission. And make sure Anutin stays on the Ganga. Keeping him out of the picture is the only way to gain control over this. He and Prayuth are the worst two things to happen to Thailand since Phibun.

It is a rudderless ship of state.

Odds on they are running at 200k infections a day now. If they had a national surveillance program like the UK has with the ONS and college hospitals it would show a more accurate picture. UK reporting 30-40k a day, estimate from ONS surveillance is 4 million have covid at any one time at the moment in UK.

As for following Covid restrictions, just take a look at the bars in Pattaya, social distancing my a**e.

you having a laugh or what

you have already exceeded that officially even though you will not accept an ATK case as positive - what is that all about

plus the thousands of tests that people are doing themselves  and for some strange reason - keeping it to themselves

Thailand has not escaped omicron - it is not under control - you cannot control it, all you can do is keep the lies pumping out thinking that people actually believe you

Have you ever thought for a moment that telling the truth might actually work better - nope, because there is a lack of education in the ranks - only big pockets and you have that off to a fine art - billions and billions of budgets - where is it ????

They believe that would make them look bad so they tell lies - it is not in their interest to tell the truth or so they believe  - lets get another budget going ............... I hope the west will question just like the thieves in Rusiian - where did you get this money from

CYA numbers. Under those numbers and 'We did a good job' ; over those numbers and 'We told you so, we warned you'.  I personally don't believe that many will die of Omicron and there won't be that many catching real Covid-19.

A very high cost to allow Songkran to return to normal.  Tradition allowed to continue over common sense.

Well that won't stop the mass exodus next week, as the populous always presume that it's someone else that will be infected and not themselves for traveling and spreading the virus.

Anutin and a fair proportion of Thailand don't live in "reality".

Anutins focus is now on marijuana, for medicinal purposes and bringing extreme wealth to every household.

the vaccine should be made mandatory for everyone applying for a retirement extension.

And I predict this prediction is true, regardless of the real numbers

Why didn't they just stop Songkran this year? They had us going nowhere and doing nothing for months. So now they let Songkran out of the box and say it looks bad after Songkran Well it looks like its party time so suck it up.
