Naew Na Thai Caption: 14 year old kid arrested; Molested friend of same age, claimed he didn't force her

 

Naew Na reported on the arrest of a 14 year old boy - named only as M - who molested "A" also 14.

 

The offences occurred back in December 2021 and ceased when the family of the girl - whose father is a navy man - went to the police to request charges.

 

When the case went cold the navy man enlisted the help of social activist Paveena Hongsakul.

 

Now the boy - from Chamni district -  has been served with an arrest warrant and taken into custody.

He said that the sex occurred but it was all consensual and involved no force. 

 

Wichian, 52, the boy's grandfather told the media that his family are very poor and had been unable to pay the compensation sought by the other family.

 

In fact he only had 5,000 baht to his name and feared that wouldn't be enough to bail out his grandson.

 

So it proved.

 

The Nang Rong police in Buriram refused bail and left that up to the discretion of the court.

Arrest warrant for a 14 year old?

They should have been quicker with the energy drink star.

Bit of a "he said, she said", unfortunately.  He could have molested her, or she might have consented and lied when her dad found out and went crazy (father might even have made her lie). 

 

A bit weird that it was an ongoing thing and only ended when they went to the police.  What prevented them from ending it before hand if it wasn't consensual?

Girls/women often aren't held responsible for sex.  They are typically passive and it is the man who initiates and does most of the "grunt" work, so women are viewed sometimes as having sex done to them.  Unless they choose to be promiscuous, then they are strong and independent and their past doesn't matter.

 

Tricky one to figure out.

Seems teenage sex is rife in this family - Grandfather at 52 would mean about grandson 14 , mother would be about 18 giving birth and he'd have been 18 when the mother was born !

This is according to the girl's (or her father's) testimony. This can not yet be considered fact.

How do you 'make' someone meet you 3 times.  Sounds consensual to me.

Double standards. The girl has been ruined where the young man is encouraged to sow the wild oats, often first with a sex worker. I even heard go this happening back in 1950-1960s USA where dads or uncles  would "take you to a whoor so as youse not turn sissie".

I'm not saying that doesn't apply to some more conservative or old-fashioned people, but I think that info is a little out of date.  Also it ignores Thai women's complicity in these attitudes.  If you seek something out, you can hardly complain when you get that thing.  "Double standards", or ideas about gender roles, are rarely one-directional.

How old were all of you when you had consenting sex? Be honest!!! Some things in life we can remember no matter how old we get, and times are no different now. But if it was non consenting well that's a case of his word against hers.

Seems the father went to the police when he heard of the relationship, police did nothing as they thought the two parties would sort it out themselves.

No money forthcoming from grandfather so he pursued the police top make an arrest.

Two kids doing what kids do, but got caught-out.

Are you saying that someone can never ever under any circumstances make someone have sex with them if they don't really want it, even temporally?  No one can seduce someone with words or touch to make them do something that they would otherwise not do?  It might still be technically non-consensual, perhaps still rape, but I think it can happen.

we have no clue as to what happened, the character of either party or the dynamics of their relationship…

 

all is known is the father is mad enough to turn it into a criminal case…what lead him to pursue charges? What was the root cause?

So The father would have not gone to cops had the compensation sought been payed, which leaves the question 'How much did the father want from a 14yr old ? '

Reading between the lines, girls  family wanted money , boys family unable to pay. Girls family press charges of rape , boys life ruined all because greedy parents

bloody hell.........when i was 14, they would have had to arrest every boy in the school for groping or molesting a girl of the same age.......everyone did it........thats what happened back then in the 70's.......it was experimenting, learning.......and most of the girls seemed to like a bit of groping anyway........

This seems very sexist. Both 14? It was consensual sex so the girl is just as culpable as the boy.

In the UK in such cases where there is consensual sex and a complaint has been made (usually by the parents, as in this case) the eldest child is considered culpable.

The eldest child is offered a police caution and is automatically placed on the sex offenders register if they accept the caution.

The courts can however make a determination whether or not to put the child on the sex offender's register and can also throw the case out of court. Sometimes the female child is the sexually promiscuous one, teasing and encouraging the boy, but if she is younger she gets away with it.

Headline says "molesting" but the article itself speaks of actual sex. Make up your mind, they're not at all the same thing.
