Baked beans

I used to buy my baked beans (Malaysian Ayam brand ) in Big C Nam Phrae or Makro MaeHia. For two weeks now they have been obtainable and on Wednesday all I could find was a 5kg tin of on obscure Italian brand in Makro. Neither Big C Mae Hia, nor Lotus's on Hang dong road have any at all.

What  is happening? Are we seeing a further rejection of Falang foods?

Supply & demand.

 

No demand, they won't supply.   I know where I live, our Makro doesn't carry a lot of the stuff of other Makros, with more of a foreigner customer base.  It just wouldn't sell here before the exp date.  Plenty of beans (Brooks) though.  Don't care for Ayam's.

From what I can remember at any Makro they get their orders met and sometimes they get some extras as a try out. If the try out sells out quickly then it can be re-ordered, but if it doesn't sell it goes on the discount pile and is not re-ordered.

 

They did some mint sauce at the Makro in Kamphaeng Phet, also El Sabor big tortilla wraps, Japanese golden curry extra hot, all one off items and slow sellers and never seen again.

Visit the Siamburi's site, you can order proper Baked Beanz on line, not sure where you're based but if in or close to Pattaya you can shop there in person, they have loads of expat food, if not possible to visit then shop on line & get home delivery.

A lot of things are hit and miss at the moment - Not too sure why Malay produce is effected, maybe they buy the beans from Eastern Europe? I don't see it as a rejection of westerners food, more like, the western restaurant owners have got there before me.

Makro isnt good for beans, I get the brit style Ayam beans from Big C and I always buy 6 cans whenever I visit and see them "why you buy so much, you havent finished the last lot yet", this is why.

 

I cant get any moccona decaf coffee from Tesco and everywhere seems to be sold out of baking soda, its like gold dust - there is a global shortage of containers at the moment, nothing is moving through Shanghai - Baking Soda, it wouldn't surprise me if we rely upon Russia to produce the worlds supply of baking soda.

If you buy imported products, say over the span of a year, you will see that the same product, from different shops, has the same expiry date. Seems, there is a huge delivery of product X (e.g. baked beans) once or twice a year, so when it's sold out, one needs to wait for the next big delivery...

You're in Khon Kaen, I am in Chiang Rai. Plenty of baking soda stocked in Tops and Big C here.

Sounds more like some kind of distribution snafu to me.

Just had 3x HP sauce bottles delivered next day from FV.

Heinz baked beans are 59bht/tin.

I love the Japanese Golden Curry Extra Hot sauce & buy it 6 packs at a time (bargain at 82 THB, it's 120+ elsewhere) along with 6 x 2ltrs of Korean Bulgogi sauce at the Makro on Pattaya Nua so hopefully they'll continue to stock it ????  

 

OP Not a fan of the Ayam baked beans & often struggle to find Heinz BBs so I've switched to Watties which are a great substitute & can be found in most supermarkets.

Ayam beans can hardly be described as falang food, you can get them out in the sticks, maybe you are referring to the "English Recipe" version they introduced.

I think the best beans are the Branston brand, I get them from Siamburi but they are available online.

Delivery charge killed it for me, I suppose it depends to how much you want their stuff. ???? but for me 400 baht was a step too far.
