Isn’t a confession evidence? It could be recanted, but surely it’s gives grounds for an investigation? As has been said by others, a murder victim does not give testimony either.

 

I hear what you say, but I stand by my statement that the reason for releasing this man is not credible. There may be a lot of other stuff going on  which has not been reported, but by itself, just not credible.
