Minimum order 1000 Baht, plus polystyrene boxed shipping about 300 Baht. The shop has a good selection.

I buy mature cheddar there every couple of months.

Butter, every time. Not as unhealthy as previously thought.   Margarine on the other hand, just 2 molecules away from being a drainpipe.

Butter, consumed in moderate amounts is healthy. Margarines contain heinous products. Highly toxic fats. Highly saturated fats and oils. I avoid them like Bubonic plague.

  • I learnt to live without spreads on bread and the like years ago, don't miss the habit now Use butter for making banana muffins , don't put on toast or sandwiches even though I have it in the fri

I agree sugar is difficult to avoid in most processed foods.

It seems to be generally agreed the Mediterranean diet, with its accent on unsaturated olive oil, is one of the most healthy heart-wise.

IMO cardiovascular disease in America comes down to a fairly simple metric - body mass.

If one's heart has to lug around an extra 30 kg of body weight, it's pretty logical the strain on said heart is more than someone of normal weight for their height and age.

The other factor is the size of meals in America. Every time I was there, the restaurants seemed to think anything less than a plate piled higher than a dumpster on garbage day was somehow defrauding the customer.

And do you expect to get an answer to that here? 555

Why not?

Yes I know, there are many here who post only to increase their post counts with absolutely nothing useful, but also I have found others who post very knowledgeable, useful and helpful posts.

In a public forum, after awhile one knows exactly how to separate the wheat from the chaff... that's life on this planet, I believe.

So presumably you eat a high fat diet? What's your BMI?

It's possible to eat normal levels of fat, provided one has trained their metabolism to utilize it rather than sugar. That's the basis of low-carb diets.

BMI can be somewhat misleading. Most midfielders in Australian Rules football fail BMI criteria miserably, because they are all muscle. The preferred method of measurement is skin fold testing.

Everyone likes to dismiss BMI when it's too high, ok if elite muscular sports person, not an average person on aseannow.com. What's your BMI?

Marmite is available in Thailand? I've never seen it on the shelves!

I've seen it from time to time in TOPs supermarket.

Big C often has Vegemite if you like the poor relation - over to you Australians!

BMI doesn't work for me.  Put in my numbers for when out of boot camp, best shape ever, and not much different than now, a couple kgs, and has me borderline overweight, then, and overweight now.   That's silly.

I always buy Flora. But my favourite cereal is a ridiculous price now:

I did buy several packs from Shopee at 129 Bt months ago.

Ah, the good old days...

hard to comment on you, but definitely a majority of people don't understand what "healthy BMI range" looks like. Scotland for example average dress size is 16 and they think it's normal, a friends wife commented my girlfriend was anorexic who was size 10 and healthy for sure, to her size 16 is normal

The metric is saturated fats, butter contains significant amounts of stearic and palmitic acid esters. Margarines made with vegetable oils, and that are not hydrogenated, are almost all unsaturated esters based on oleic, linoleic, and linolenic acids.

Here in lies the first issue - most margarines (we are discussing here in Thailand) are made with low grade oils, which are high in trans fats. However people bleat on about these being illegal/banned/controlled etc they are ever present.

Butter is high in saturated fat, which (unless you eat lbs daily) is far healthier than polyunsaturated fats - not to mention butter has a reasonable quantity of CLA and the risks of heart disease & fat consumption has been well documented.

Further more the "processing" that goes into butter is negligible, not to mention the fact that its delicious.

Me neither. I have been paying almost 200 baht for 454 grams of good butter from the Bakery Club in Ang Sila

Bht 100 + 38 shipping from Lazada. COD.

It says 90 baht? I bought 3 of them previously

You shouldn't eat much of any of them, so choose the one that tastes the best, in my opinion clearly butter.

My supplier says Bht 100. Couldn't be 4rsed looking more to save Bht 30

I only buy margarine imported from Australia, and with an olive oil or canola base.

The argument rages on social media as to whether saturated fats or unsaturated oils are better health-wise, the Mediterranean diet supports the latter.

There is no such thing as a polyunsaturated fat, they are all oils. When manufacturers hydrogenate a polyunsaturated oil, then it becomes a saturated fat. And yes, trans fats are bad news.

You'll have to help me out with what CLA is, Google tells me it is a Mercedes model.

Family genetics mean I will always battle to get into normal range. OTOH, I'll never have to worry about osteoporosis.

I'd like to be around to see how you compare at age 79, but it's unlikely.

Dr. Ekberg is the best nutritionist on YouTube.... Listen/watch this video and you will learn very much.

From what I've seen, people who exercise seem to lose weight as they get older, eat less etc, lose muscle. I've cracked what I need to do to lose a kg if required, now BMI 22.9, could go lower if I wanted. If I make it to 79 I suspect I'll be similar, and I should add I'm big on carbs and sugar, not sugar phobic

Quite right, that's why I have daily exercise routines to maintain or build muscle mass. It's a balancing act.

I haven't reduced my food intake, just become more selective in what I eat.

It's interesting to note every single product he mentions in the video is a packaged or processed food. Not a single fresh food gets a mention.

It's going to be real butter or nothing depending of what I put on additionally, so no butter and bacon for an example or if I eat caviar, cheese tomato

24.2 I am pretty healthy according to my Doc. Exercise keeps the weight off, and just just cut out sugars and over-processed food.
