Reopening will go some way to make up for lack of interest in the regional forums.

And a renaming back to TV ? ????

Yup, regional forums are a waste of time IMO

Great news if different  opinions will be tolerated. Looking forward to the overhaul of forum rules!  Let's be fair.

George, if you're only going to allow Reuters, CNN and the BBC, it won't be much news.  It'll just be propaganda.  But, you just keep on believing "Media Matters".

Just to be clear, the posting of false or misleading information will not be allowed and sources that are not credible will not be permitted.  With regard to situations like Covid, our rule is derived from the Royal Thai Government's Emergency Decree.

With regard to sources such as RT, it would generally not be allowed.  It rates very low on factual reporting:

Why can't members post a topic in the "World" forum?

Great to see World News back. For the life of me, I couldn't see the reason for withdrawing it, it always was a lively forum.

And great to see George back!

Thai political news has been subdued since the dissolution of FF but that may change soon with Chadchart's Bangkok victory.

Yes, change the title again: ' Thailand and Beyond'.

Agreed. They're way too strict unless you're of a liberal left political persuasion.

Due to copyright issues is the main reason.

You are so desperate for clicks - why don't you stop and think what has driven traffic away from this site.

Let me say up front, my post is not intended to question forum policies but more of a honest and legitimate question I feel (some) forum members would like to know.  I do agree false information is not good for open discussion which, IMO, causes flaming and trolling.  But what source(s) does ASEAN NOW use to determine what is credible?  If an internal decision making process, then ok, but why not reveal how subject matter is deemed credible....or not?  Thanks.

Let's hope these changes include a sustained effort to drive out the anti Thai obsessives, the Thai haters, Thai bashers and generalised anti Thai racism whose constant trolling is a distraction.

It seems you are not able to differ between criticism and ANTI-THAI-xxxxx.

It’s early days with the reopening of World News . We will do our best to provide News, but we currently don’t have a list, as we are under negotiations with news providers.

We are not desperate for clicks. We just have more resources available when Covid (hopefully) is over and Thailand and other countries are recovering. And yes, my task is to drive more traffic to the site and help publish useful and interesting content. We want AN to be a better place for our visitors.

Of course you are in the business of driving traffic to your site. That is fine, the more traffic the better the site. I suggested you consider what might be driving AWAY people like me who have been a contributor since 2003 from posting. I think you already know, so there would be no point in discussing it even if i could (doesn't come under any Thai Law - that necessity is understood). This is an incredibly valuable resource which is why I am not going to allow myself to be more specific about what is p*issing off me and many others about this site. I have conversations about it with people in the street who feel the same way. Hopefully I haven't signed my AN death warrant with this. I am actually trying to be helpful. A handful are to be HIGHLY commended BTW.

Wow. You're suggesting that AN/TV bans certain members because of their views or opinions?

Since when has "criticism of the US" been a point of contention, or not permitted, on Thaivisa?

Going to give the ThaiVisa Bar another go around, huh?

Based on the Bangkok "lounge" experience, for God's sake, let's hope not.

Post of the year, so far.

It's a shame that policy is not applied to some members' posts!

And I doubt that any member is seriously expecting you to use RT as a source!

They are, but we cannot be everywhere all the time. Thats why the report function is there to bring to the attention of Moderators.

My reply to this would be against the forum rules. So I shut up.

Is it possible to be critical of Biden/democrats/lefties at all?

Depends who you were criticising, Trump carry on as much as you like, the opposition NO!

It was suggested by a forum member earlier in this thread. That's why Scott responded to that particular issue in his post above.

Only Liberal Western media tells the truth. NYT? Bastion of truth - no bias, no narrative, no lying by omission and distortion. I could go on.....

pro tip: If both sides are lying by omission and distortion at best (they are) then you need both sides to form any kind of opinion/judgement on what the truth may be.

Nobody is telling the flat truth about anything.

In this particular circumstance, the old adage of the golden rule is at play. Those whom hold the gold, make up the rules and manipulate popular convention.

By it's very nature, information and variable sources will tend to be subjective in one form another.

I know.

You think that member was serious?!  That why I responded that way.

That's just a question, not a comment on moderation.

George, from one 'old' member (#194) to another even older member and forum founder - good to see you back!

No disrespect George, we older generation "ThaiVisa" members much prefer the prancing leopard as an avatar over your ageing image!

Good luck with the come back I, for one, certainly missed you.
