Whiff of scandal at the "Big Match" - singer buys up 400M baht of tix for Man U/Liverpool to sell cheap

Sanook suggested there was a whiff of scandal in the air last night as musical artist Pimrypie's fame went one better, or worse.

 

The hashtag #Pimrypie (in Thai) was number one on Thai Twitter from yesterday evening after she went on Facebook live to say she had managed to buy up nearly 400 M baht's worth of tickets for the upcoming Manchester United vs Liverpool friendly match.

 

The two giants of the English Premier league are meeting for the first time in Thailand at the Rajamangala National Stadium on July 12th.

 

The tickets sold out quickly and were supposed to be limited to four a person. How Pimrypie got 25,000 with her name on at 20,000 baht and 15,000 baht remains a mystery.

 

Also appearing on the big day is South Korean star Jackson Wang in a one hour slot. 

 

Pimrypie said on Facebook that she would give away 200 free tickets for practice sessions of the South Korean and the two teams on July 11th. People could see them close up.

 

There would also be a lottery for a chance to have a meal with Jackson and the players.

 

She said she was selling the 20K tickets for the main day for just 15K and the 15K ones for 11K.

 

2,000 tickets were available for the practice sessions at an unspecified price. 

 

Angry Twitter users flooded the platform wondering how Pimrypie had got so many tickets when the Thai Ticket Major site limited the sale. No wonder the site sold out so quickly, they said.

 

Sanook just said that they would have to wait for explanations from the organizers.

The bigger mystery to me is why on earth anyone would want to pay £450 for what is clearly displayed on the ticket as a "training session".

Sounds to me like they have struggled to sell tickets,they can't reduce the price now as people have already paid the original price.

 

They have used this as a way to drop the prices on the remaining tickets.

The real scandal is not how she managed to buy so many tickets, BUT the fact that the ticket prices ( for all sections) were DOUBLE the ticket prices that Liverpool and Man U agreed to.

Double is still £225 though, and about 4 times the price of going to see them at an actual competitive game in the UK.   On top of that Thailand is a developing country and would cost the average Thai more than a months wages to see a bunch of multi-millionaires kick the ball around in a training session.   

 

Pure greed and exploitation is whats going on here.   Let's hope the tickets do not sell and the training session is played in an almost empty stadium so lessons can be learned.

No one is being asked to.  The ones saying that are part of the 200 being given away free and 2,000 being sold for the practice session on the 11th.  The actual game is on the 12th.

That's because those tickets she is displaying are for the training session on the 11th July.  The main "match" is on the 12th.

I agree that that the price for the main match is absolutely disgusting and won't be much more than a leisurely kick-a-bout.  I am a football fan but no way would I pay that even if it was my team.

Maybe this is an opportunity for "dual pricing" - the Farang should pay the full price to watch the match, while the Thai should pay only half......

And for a bit of half time excitement they could let a few  Thai ladyboys in with the Liverpool supporters to see a bit of action. There would probably be more balls dribbled than the whole of the Man U team could manage in the first half. ????

Starting to think she bought nothing. They can't sell tickets to their ridiculously overpriced kick around and in their desperation have employed this tart to flog a few tickets.

  As I stated before I hope no one goes to this football non- match.
