Duodart intillially prescribed by BPH now I buy the

I also got DuoDart initially, but it gave me some side-effects and now my Urologist gave me Xatral XL 10mg and no side-effects! 1 Tablet daily before Bed-Time!

Edit: Both Duodart and Xatral are OTC, with Duodart being the more expensive one.

Pencor 2 taken just before going to bed, beware first time taking might lead to a few seconds faint but after 3 years taking them I rarely have a problem with peeing now.

@I am in Mae Mao

Before going the medicine route, go and see a GOOD urologist. Have a Flow test and a Ultra Sound to see how big the Prostate actually is.

Also have you had a PSA test recently?

I went to Bumrungrad hospital in Bangkok (I live in Buriram) and did see this Doctor, highly recommended.

Edit: I see you are near Chiang Mai.

very good advice--the best thing to do before starting on any medication longterm--there may be other factors impacting the urination, and one person's experience does not fit all--and if there is something more serious, to delay any required treatment by months or years, could lead to allowing a more minor problem to turn into a more serious one--at least understand why, for you, the frequent urination is occuring.

Yes I can also highly recommend this Dr, and although he didn't cure my problem, he did all the tests to ascertain exactly what the problem was, which no one else had been able to do up until that point.

Nice clean hospital with good, friendly and attentive staff, and Dr Charuspong is a caring individual and speaks very good English.

Yeah, forget about a PSA test and the finger up the <deleted>! Self-medicate, and get free advice from various ASEAN Now posters. Think of the money you'll save. Go for it!

Harnal Ocas.

Take once before bedtime.

Available over the counter at for eg Boots chemists.

Recommended by leading specialist at major hospital in Bangkok.

In my case this medicine  reduces the number of times I need to go to pee at night.

But surely you need to seek advice yourself from a specialist?

big cup by my bedside,,,not ready to commit to meds for the rest of my life....

also cuts liquids down after 8.......taking life as it comes

Ignoring the problem lead my father to walk (or mostly not) with a catheter and plastic bag bound to the leg).

Problem will get worse and worse and one day the flow is completely clogged.

My father collapsed with stroke and blood pressure 200.

Emergency catheterizing at hospital emptying liters of urine.

I was prescribed this by a urologist at Bangkok hospital. After two months there was better flow, but I had side effects of a horrible cold, or sinusitis, severe back pain and was heading towards impotence, I stopped then. Started on Saw Palmetto. It has done the trick, Back pain almost gone, cold symptoms much better as well and impotence is gone. The "famed' Urologist never even informed me of any possible side effects.

This topic title is misleading, as it infers that is is about an enlarged growth along the ground or lying stretched out.

Might I suggest you change the title to Prostate.

May I ask:

If you had all the test then you also should have gotten a recommendation from the Doc about which Medicine you should take!

So what was the recommendation / Meds you got?

If you know the name people can advise you @Sheryl for example which medicine is available OTC here in LoS.

So it's prostate.

Alfuzosin 10 mg. Works very well and is time released. 3rd generation alpha blocker. Recommended by most urologists.

"Saw palmetto is commonly used in Europe and the United States as a treatment for enlarged prostate. Some small studies have shown benefit. However, several large studies do not show that saw palmetto reduces the size of the prostate or eases the urinary symptoms that come with an enlarged prostate"

https://www.webmd.com/men/prostate-enlargement-bph/supplement-guide-saw-palmetto

-Note : Most specialist medics will not perscribe saw palmetto for enlarged prostrate but if I am wrong please post here the name, location and qualification of a proper doctor who does make such a claim.

Maybe Sheryl would like to give her view....

You might read the latest studies on anti-depressants for correcting serotonin levels, inevitably "perscribed" by proper doctors.

There's no money for "proper doctors" in prescribing saw palmetto. Large studies may show it doesn't work. Alas, studies are often wrong. I can give you some impressive "proper" documentation on that. Including the meta analyses one of our members believes in religiously--when they support his point, ignoring those that don't. ???? Such is our forum.

However, if I had BPH and read the "small studies" and all the anecdotal evidence, and keeping the placebo effect firmly in mind, I'd have no real reason not to give it a try. Cheap and pretty harmless. What if I happened to be one of those it worked for, seemingly? Great. If not, move on. You got a problem?

I see no harm in trying saw palmetto.

Some people also report benefit from stinging nettle.

I take stinging nettle powder. I don't have any issues. I would not have been aware I had BPH until the specialist checked me. He said that my prostate was about 3.5 cm wide and was surprised I hadn't had any issues. He wrote a letter to my GP suggesting I take duodart but I refused until I see prostate problems. So, I can't say if stinging nettle works or not. I'm not going to stop unless I prove it's ineffective.
