I guess it will be overturned somehow

Up to Prawit, the real boss of Thailand!

From The BBC Article Cited:

"Opponents and activists have argued Mr Prayuth's term began when he was junta leader. As military leader, he seized power in the May 2014 coup and then appointed himself prime minister of the new military government in August 2014.

That means his term should end this week, his critics say.

However his supporters say his term only began in 2017 - when a new constitution came into force - or even after a general election in 2019 that saw him retain power.

Under those terms, he could technically continue serving until 2027 - if he wins an upcoming general election."

Doesn't Seem Clearcut One Way Or The Other...So... Wait And See...

there are just a few point to address

firstly it is all is about how the law text itself that has been written. does it include or cover the time before it becomes active or not.

secondly also has to be made clear when do you speak about 'prime minister'? Do not forget in the period between the coup and the election after the coupe there was no actually an elected democratic government, and there fore one is not speaking about an elected government based on the rule of democratic election, Just about an administration set in place by the  militarily.

When these two are made clear the on has to make clear which dat is the date of appointment of the Prime Minister.

Based on all the arguments one could expect that the outcome will be the date should be 10 July, 2019. The date based on when the first democratic elected parliament after the coup democratically elected their Prime Minister.

The first move to better was made by suspending Mr Prayuth, but replacing him with this man out of 6 deputy PM's?? I am wondering why a country waste so much money on 6 deputy PM's a normal country would have 1. And this man willonly continue what the previous did. Same age, same thoughts, same unreliable.....In fact the whole Governmnet should have step down now and new free democratic elections, but the Army will never give up its control over the country and its people..Old wine in new bags

On the other hand, in the absence of clarification, one could just take the statement literally as likely was intended!

Now is the time for the Thai people to raise up and make their voices heard one or the other.  Not saying it will change the outcome of anything but they need to become involved.

You have to feel sorry for the Thai's, Prawit is surely the worst possible PM. Unless the Thai nation reacts and chucks this lot out, apathy will allow just let them get away with it.

Using the English translation of the Constitution

The stipulation is serve as PM for 8 years in total.

There does not appear to be any provisions excluding any term prior to the 2017 constitution.

The interim Constitution of 2014 was fully endorsed by the highest authority, and thus the Prayut became the official serving PM.

Exactly, A defense minister actually still playing PM while the fat watchman acts like he is caretaking the government....oh brother a fox running the henhouse while looking at his watch for the time....

Just like when Putin handed over to Dmitry Medvedev in 2008. A temporary inconvenience, but everyone knew who was running the show.

Expect to see the Thai constitution 'revised' shortly, if not completely ignored.

The Thai Tatmadaw aren't going anywhere.

A stegosaurus is removed, and replaced by a brontosaurus. A big stage play? Or are the powers behind the power finally losing faith in Mr. Incompetent?

It was not. It couldn't have possibly been, given the incapacity of the Highest Law Of The Land at that time.

Just corrupt army 'Generals' taking advantage of the situation, just like in Myanmar today.

Just a show. The constitution or judge had never cited against Prayuth..he's gonna get extended until election next year. Or they will decide he's 8 years starts from when he was elected and approved by HMK which was 2019?

Or Prawit will take over and after 4 years Prayuth will take ive again for 8 years. Just as Putin did when his period was iver

The wife says he has not been "suspended" as of yet.  This is as of 17:50pm.  They are just discussing it.

Posted at 17:10 ????

Maybe Prawit told him what the time was.

That would be great, if people would only say to the new acting PM "what time is it?"

Imagine a press conference, where each reporter, one after the other, asks him "what time is it?"

Some days there is great news, some days there is sad news.

Today it is fantastic news. A small step indeed, but maybe a step in the right direction.

Time will tell.
