Any advantage for a foreigner to register his name in the Thai Registration Book (Blue Tabien Baan)?

I am living in BKK on a Non-O Visa (by marrige). I am thinking of registering my name as a resident in our House Blue Book (Tabien Baan) which has my wife as the sole registered owner. What are the advantages of having that registration and how do I go about getting it done at our local district office?

You can't.

 

 

What you can do is apply for a "Yellow" book, Going by the numerous previous threads on the topic, the requirements vary from office to office. 

 

It's probably best to go and ask.

Mostly it's hassle and little benefit getting a yellow book, although they'll be on soon listing how great it is

Like, you don't have to go to immigration to get a residence form that are required by some Thai bureaucracies, like the motor vehicle department.  I've got one.  It saves the occasional hassle of having to drive to immigration (30+ km for me).  Just saying.  It doesn't buy you much.

Interesting that you say Thai bureaucracies in the plural form.

 

I know some require it for vehicle registration, I don't as I get them registered in my wife's name. I also believe they are needed by some when applying for a driving licence, although my local office accepts a letter from the local police. I guess these two examples would be singular as it is the same department. What other instances are there where you have been asked for one?

I have used yellow book and associated Pink ID at Land office, DBD (Make Thai company), Thai banks and local Amphoe/Thesaban

Interesting. Could you divulge the reasons? I've never been asked to produce a yellow book or Pink ID. That's why I don't have one. Don't see the advantage.

Land office was in Bangkok, to do with wife selling a her house and I had to produce ID and sign the "not my house " document. DBD was to buy and become a director of company (house purchase) and they insisted on Pink ID as name already in Thai. Bank, I have opened and operate a (Thai name) bank account. Local Ampher was to put wife in previously blank blue book a friend in yellow book (I am housemaster in Yellow book).

All of the above, my passport stayed in the safe.

Like the DLT, you can keep using a passport for many things, or switch to yellow book/Pink ID (name in Thai script).

Very strange. I've only ever needed to produce a translated copy of my passport. Something I translated and certified myself.

I went to local Amphur in Chaiyaphum to do a yellow book. Idiot there insisted on bringing 3 witnesses, including a teacher or doctor and the poh yai baan and gunman. Said would be a lengthy process and all would be required for a full day. Stupid tw@t making out like he was granting me permanent residency or something. All in the hope I would go away and leave him alone. They were the worst office I ever dealt with. Walk in and they were all playing with their phones or reading newspapers. Sneer at you like you had dog shet on your shoes...Thai and farang alike. Saw them send an elderly Thai man back home one day after travelling an hour to get there to change his shorts to long pants as he wasnt showing them the proper respect. Disgusting human beings. I didnt bother in the end. Been told over and over only advantage of a yellow book no residency cert needed for DMV

Its probably best not to bother.  There is no real lasting advantage  in getting one.  It doesnt eliminate 90 day reports, or the TM30, it doesnt often help with any of the authorities.  It may save a bit of hassle if you buy a lot of cars or bikes, otherwise, its largely a waste of time.,

17 years here. No serious advantages getting a 'Yellow Book'. I originally applied for it cuz they said farangs could get free medical treatment if they had one. I went through a lot of palaver to to get one only for the Thai government decided to renege on that. Don't waste yer time applying for a 'Yellow Book'. No real advantages. It'll get you a 'Pink Card' but that ain't much better .

I used my pink id card to get covid jabs locally sooner than passport.

I use my yellow book to fly back into Thailand on a one way ticket from certain countries as well as drivers license here.

I consider it worth having if you live a distance from immigration.

It's the Pink Non Thai ID card that is useful. Opened up bank accounts with it and use it to board domestic flights and check into hotels. YMMV as some find it useless as well.

Once again you write rubbish mate. If you read his post (which is obviously not your strong point), he didn't ask for yellow Book/Pink ID card info (which there are many threads floating about), he asked for Blue Book info.
