I have never had a job and hold Thai bank accounts for years. Fist time I was issued in Thapae road based on passport alone giving a hotel address.

 

USA and OK financial rules are irrelevant. KYC rules mainly hurt the innocent

 

Thai sells longstay visas, elite cards, and markets the country as a retirement haven.

 

There does not appear to any regulation against non-resident accounts.

 

So why make such a big deal about it? Just my question. 

 

Making people go traipsing around like an idiut looking for a foreigner friendly branch, or agreeing if they buy some accident insurance so the bank staff get a spiff. 

 

I can tell people where to go in Chiang Mai. The requirements are clear.

 

Maybe it is because foreign crims occasionally luanda  money? Thai people do that too

 

We could do a better job of keeping foreign criminals out in the first by requiring police background checks from home country

Little story

 

We build our current house just over 2 years ago, and I got the YHB on the address of our old House (which is still owned by the Wife but it's mostly empty now).

 

I never bothered moving the YHB to the new address, but beginning of the Year I went to immigration to ask are there any new requirements for getting a new year extension.

 

The guy I spoke to said 2 things: 1) Bank Statement going back 3-6 months and 2) YHB with current address.

 

That 2nd one was a total shock, but @blackcab (in a thread I opened about it) said to move addresses (if you have a YHB already) was real easy. And thus I changed address and thus got a new YHB (old one I still have, but has a stamp which says "Moved out") (Done and dusted in about 20-30min at the Local Amphur)

 

Long story shorter, did my extension at IO and NO YHB needed ????

 

So I moved the YHB new house for nothing ????

 

My guess a new YHB would be necessary if for example we had sold the OLD house and the new owner would not like that I kept registered there. But this is total speculation on my part.

 

Or if you move provinces. That is about it (someone will of course correct me when I am wrong about this)

Many Thai people don't live at the address on their HB, it's not important. 

Yes, it's easy to change YHB, the only difference to the BHB is that you need a letter from the old town house. 

In 25 years, I was never asked for YB at immigration, they don't care about this. 

I only changed my YB as it was easier to apply for citizenship in Bkk. My BHB is still there, despite living outside Bkk. I'm in no hurry to change it.

Yes I know that many Thai people don’t live where they are registered for example my wife’s son lives and works in Chonburi but as registered in our old house in Buriram.

 

On the other hand, the Older brother had to urgently move from the fathers house book to Bkk because of some dealings with his local amphur (no idea why)

 

I only used my YHB for renewal of driving license,  but if you have your YHB registered in province X and moved to province Y (and never bothered to move YHB) the DLT could maybe tell you to apply for your license in the province where the YHB is registered. That is guessing of course

 

In my case, if theIO hadn’t said I need YHB I would NOT have moved the YHB.

I managed to get both the Yellow book and the Pink card after a lot of messing about. The 1st officer my wife and I spoke to said it couldn't be done (Code for 'I don't know how to do it').

After that, we managed to speak to a female officer who was very helpful and managed to eventually supply the book and the card.

One strange thing I had to supply was, an official Thai translation of my parent's names.

I'm 65 hahaha.

With all the problems the OP is having, I'd contact an agent and let them sort it out.

I had to give a copy of my parents' passports! I translated their names myself

Incredible! Good job they didn't request mine. Father left home in 1971 and died 25 years ago. How could I produce his (assuming he ever had one)?

That guess is incorrect, there is no requirement at the DLT for you to go to any office. You can renew your license at any office that is convenient, though some offices may refuse a foreigner as “can not” when it’s just too difficult to communicate.

Indeed, I renewed my license recently and there first question was 'madam you where?'! I replied(in Thai) 'madam me no want renewal'.

the book doesn't move or change address, it's supposed to belong to the house, people move between books

 

you don't need to move to your 'new' current address if you still have access to the 'old' one unless it's beneficial to do so like property tax 

 

technically the housemaster is supposed to notify of any change when people move or be fined, but how're they gonna check? 

 

when selling the house you're supposed to give the new owner the housebook so they can move in if they choose to do so.... but if there's a yellow book thais rarely know about I supposed you could hold on to it and it's valid until the new houseowner become aware and kicked you off his book, but I don't imagine it a straightforward process trying to get a foreigner name removed from yellow book without knowing where they moved to.

I agree. I wasn't making a deal of it. 

I think some foreigners have a sense of entitlement and get resentment when they are refused a bank account. 'don't these pesky Siamese know who I am and who saved them during the war' ????

I had yellow house book for my condo in chiang mai and re renewed my licence in prachuab kiri kan provence.

Well I did finally get it completed, saw the higher ranking village head who actually lives a fair way outside the city limits, was a nice bloke( as I find most non governmental thais to be) he couldnt be more helpful.

It was still a cluster till the end though with the new guy handling the job trying to save face by talking loudly to me in the crowded office and me using hand gestures back it then took the poor girl who was entering stuff all of her lunchtime to finish it as we were told they had to use a seperate part for farangs, we then waited for a bit to get the pink card but she told us to go home and come back at 4 pm as they had to change out of the thai system to the farang one(I already knew this thankfully) but it was a pain as stragglers kept coming in but finally it was done.

As a few said, just give up, I would have if during the pandemic I could have got a vaccine earlier(as I do have a small lung problem) but couldnt get on the list without an id number(which the pink card provides) and who knows what the future holds in regards to ids etc.

Also saw a remark that someone who wasnt married was knocked back as I was at the start of all this, thats because in the instructions it states they need a copy of the marriages certificate if there is one, the Thais read this as needing one, same can be said for a work permit as well.
