Its a lot more convenient using cards rather than cash , you can buy what you need without the chore of having to make sure that you have cash in your pocket or looking if there is an ATM close buy .

Like, seeing something in a shop , then walking around trying to find an ATM , then making a withdrawal and taking the cash back to the shop to buy the item and they give you change back .

Much easier just to swipe you card there and then at the check-out, rather than the  chore of paying cash

The question is not what is easier to use but to go completely cashless.

Banks, internet, government etc can go bust.... Enjoy your life after that with your cashless cr.p

I’m not your mate.

Shocking you can be so deluded as to think that Thai businesses choosing to go cashless will lead to Chinese domination.

Sad as well.

how do you pay someone else if there is no terminal, no phones, no nothing ?

why do you want to introduce a third party in the payment process ?

I would go to an ATM and make a cash withdrawal and pay that way ,

Until you can't access your money because of a "glitch" in the  system.

Or the bank or government have locked your account because they think there is something suspicious..

I, and several friends have had bank accounts closed in the last few years by the banks. Never given a reason. Just a message that the bank has decided to close the account.

Without cash. How to survive that?

Because you BAD MAN is obviously the reason!

Anybody know?

For no cash...

Where can I get a GALAXY S22 ULTRA?

This is not a joke.

I need one for posting thoughts on ThaiVisa.

My Note 4 has seen better days.

Tks for any constructive advice, forthcoming.

Why does cash give you more freedom than swiping with a bankcard ?

It's not about swiping cards. Don't you understand that no cash means nothing can save you???!?

Do you seriously believe that no cash is the best what ordinary people should get? Oh boy, what a brutally brainwashed individual you are. Scary creature indeed.

No, what I am doing is saying Thai businesses choosing to go cashless is not part of a wider conspiracy and to claim their are sinister motivations behind this process is hysterical hyperbole.

it is not 'hysterical hyperbole' at all.

please do your research properly.

It all depends on your definition of "conspiracy" and just because it is called a "conspiracy" it doesn't mean that it is not true.

It is a plan because it has been going on in Thailand since at least 2019. It isn't exactly secret but then it isn't something the ordinary guy on the street would be reading about.

The first of two tracks of the study will assess "the system's efficiency and safety" by "conducting cash-like activities, such as paying for goods and services, within limited areas and scale of approximately 10,000 retail users selected by the bank."

https://www.coindesk.com/policy/2022/08/05/thailands-central-bank-extends-retail-cbdc-study-to-pilot-phase/

Limited area, limited users and limited services - it is basically a coupon.

It is like having a Boots gift coupon - you won't be able to spend it anywhere other than Boots.

Think about how your gift coupon differs from a thousand baht note.

No they won't - they have already given that money to others as loans and have no money - if insured it is the insurance (government) that foots the bill and the taxpayer that pays in the bill.  Wise money is always on deposit and available for payment - so as long as no actual fraud (like has recently occurred with crypto) the money should be available to pay back.  And as Wise is not designed as an interest paying account (savings) most people would not lose there life savings as could happen with a bank.

If banks go bust it will be bail-in rather than bailout. Not too bad if you only have the insurable amount in each bank but bad news if you have over that amount.

But you will still get your money back .

So, Yes, you will get your money back .

If they have lent the money out , they will get that money back again and you will get your money back

Maybe so. But who decides that? And on what criteria?

There was hardly any money going into my account, and only utility bills being paid from what was in there and had been there for years. So no suspicious transactions.

Getting that email saying something along the lines of, "We are closing your account and you need to tell us where to send the balance. We do not have to give you a reason. This decision is arbitrary and not open  to negotiation." caused me a lot of worry and inconvenience. Luckily I had another account to pay it in to. But for someone with only that account, and with bills to pay could be left in real trouble. Especially if living here and the account is back in their home country.

I have a friend who has a garage repair shop. Lots of cash payments. Several times he has had banks close accounts in a similar way. Recently had  his account suspended. Is still trying to get it reopened.

Nothing to do with being a bad man. It's just the banks scared of the massive fines and penalties that might be imposed for any perceived failure to implement money laundering regulations.

Yes, in time you should get your money back, and that is very important for large savings/retirement type money.  But Wise is not offering that kind of system - they offer to act as holding station for weekly/monthly pay pending your transfer to other accounts/countries.  Not designed for huge amounts from individuals so even in worst case should not be that much of a loss.

Yes it is. Thai businesses choosing to go cashless will not lead to Chinese style government.

Well maybe it depends if you think a Chinese style government is synonymous with a lack of freedom or not. Whether it leads to a one party Communist state or not is irrelevant; you can lose your economic freedom under any type of government. But don't worry it will be for your own good and be ultra-convenient - our governments are well aware that altruism is seen as an attractive quality.

Slightly OT but....

For those who have embraced the QR code payment method, how do you know you are actually being charged the advertised price?  You can't "read" the QR code for specifics before the payment, can you?

What's the recourse if a vendor quotes one price and then the QR code payment results in a different price?

Never claimed anything would be for my own good or indicated so.

Just pointing out the hyperbolic hysterical claims made by another poster.
