The Reinvention of General Prawit

Imagine, for a moment, that you are a PR consultant for General Prawit Wongsuwan: the deputy prime minister of Thailand and leader of the Palang Pracharath Party. You are tasked with repackaging the deputy prime minister into an appealing product for the upcoming general election. 

 

Your first instinct is probably: that sounds like an immensely difficult task. Prawit is a Dick Cheney-esque figure, whose claim to fame in the national consciousness is a bizarre wristwatch scandal. Yet in an unexpected twist in the twilight of his long career, Prawit now finds himself as a prime ministerial candidate and the face of Thailand’s main ruling party. The need for a PR makeover has now become necessary. 

 

For decades, Prawit has been a powerful man, rising through the ranks of the army and becoming one of the most influential figures of the Eastern Tigers faction. After retiring as commander of the army, he was appointed defense minister in the Abhisit Vejjajiva cabinet, before finally becoming a key component of the “3Ps” triumvirate that has ruled Thailand since the 2014 military coup.

Regardless of how good a PR expert you are, there is not much you can do with someone so incapable, someone so lacking in leadership ability, so detached from the people, nor someone as corrupt and insincere. 

 

So, all you can do it try to continue to fool the most naive and gullible amongst us. 

 

He may be a powerful general, for reasons very few people know. We know for certain, it has nothing to do with combat experience. But, as a leader of the nation? He is truly bottom of the barrel material. Thailand could do so much better. Time to rid itself of prehistoric dinosaurs and march into the future, with some pride.

All these things aside, one has to wonder why the overwhelming and unnecessary attention that the usual suspects receive from the expected Thai mainstream [controlled] media......less the so-called alternative media types. 

 

Rarely are the promotions of the fixed dominant paradigm presented. One really has to reach out to find material that challenges or questions the same old manure - offering alternatives by way of a paradigm shift is not in the tea leaves. 

 

Fortunately, for some, there are numerous sources that offer "things different" - but have little reach for the commons.

When Prawit first came to power, his annual stipend was under a million baht YET he banked FIVE million for each of the next five years before enacting a law that did not require him to declare his 'unusually rich' status.

Truly a disgrace.

An old dodger that can't walk without assistance and clearly overtaken by disconnections and unawareness of his surroundings........less making sound and intelligent decisions regarding anything. 

 

......and no obvious push back from the media - whose sole purpose is to promote the club and it's standing.
