Anutin hits back at Chuwit: Denies 50MB for votes in Bangkok, says their long standing relationship is OVER

Thai Rath and other Thai media followed up after Chuwit Kamolwisit claimed he had been offered 50 million baht by DPM and Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul to help get votes for the latter's Bhumjaithai party in Bangkok.

He also denied he was behind a raid at Chuwit's Davis Hotel in Sukhumvit Road Soi 24 saying he was too busy for such trivial things.

He admitted to having a long relationship with Chuwit but his actions now mean that their relationship is over, they'll each go their separate ways.

ASEAN NOW notes that this may be difficult; Chuwit in his role as whistleblower-in-chief has been courted by all and sundry. For Anutin not to meet former politician Chuwit may mean his approval rating plummets as Chuwit's own public appeal is at an all time high.

About the 50M baht offer Anutin just laughed.

"It never happened," he said adding that he had never done such a thing.

He admitted that they had know each other for 10 years and had often spoken with each other.

They had never had any disagreements.

He questioned Chuwit's actions saying "Why is he doing this to an old friend?". He referred to their mutual help between their families adding:

"I want to keep the old, good memories alive. The relationship between us in "this life" is over."

He used the term "chart nee" meaning this reincarnation of life.

He said he didn't want to dwell on bad things and in ending the relationship with Chuwit he was also mindful of others in his Bhumjaithai party whom he respects deeply.

He referred to a telephone conversation between them in which he had said that help is provided by "commander in chief" Phuttipong Punnakan.

He said he had supported Chuwit in his crusade against "grey Chinese" businessman Tu Hao but that arrangements to "meet for a meal" were now off the agenda.

In a video published by the media it was patently obvious that Anutin was trying to control his anger, suggests ASEAN NOW.

The question many political observers will be asking, however, is:  Was he being "economical with the truth".

Pressed by reporters about a raid by Health Ministry staff on a "marijuana bar" at the Davis Hotel Anutin said he had no knowledge of that and it was "not my style".

He said that all his time right now is taken up clearing his desk as the parliament comes to an end and the election looms.

He said he hasn't got time for ministry matters and the staff there understand that.

He denied getting back at Chuwit with the raid.

He ended by saying that he has nothing more to say to his former friend.

"That's best. I'll go my way and he'll go his.If he turns up at Government House I won't come out to meet him.

"It's not necessary and not my job."

ASEAN NOW notes that Chuwit has been spot on with many allegations recently while billionaire Anutin holds out hope of becoming the next Thai prime minister.

Despite the health minister's bluster yesterday rapprochement may be necessary in the future.

Well he was always a bit weird - do you remember all those election posters years back ( I think he was tilting for the Bangkok governor's job) which showed him manically wielding a sledgehammer?

Seems to be a worrying sort of statement.

Chuwit must be absolutely devastated.

Most Isaan villagers expect to receive at least 500bt to vote for a specific candidate, and will likely receive more, as more than one candidate invariably hands over money.

Surely if it was announced that the first 10 villagers in every village, who could provide specific proof of vote buying, would receive a nice little reward, those buying would be prosecuted, barred from standing, and the elections could then go ahead in a free and fair way

Spoiled little boys become irresponsible little men

Would take Chuwit 100 times more than the sleazy Anutin .. He is everything that promotes back door politics

Not in the land of corruption

We got us a real cat-fight.

Anutin sent MoPH investigators to inspect Chuwit's cannabis dispensary within his Davis Hotel property.

Mrs got involved with politics a couple of years ago. They have been having rallies and meetings for a while, last local meeting about 200 people there- all got 1k baht, at the actual election time cash is spread around like confetti. 50 million sounds like an under estimate. As well as cash, trips, meals and parties are spent on. Mrs has no idea what the policies are, she is only interested in the money involved.????

Due to inflationary pressure, the Issan Vote Vendors Co-Op is insisting on a minimum voting bounty of 750 Bhat plus transportation to the polls, with a stop at a market area.

I have  read somewhere a couple of years ago that on main elections people get paid for their votes. They just goto some local meeting where they stand in line  for a couple of hundred bahts to make sure they vote for that party (member).  Don't know if this is true.  Has anybody ever seen or heared this?

That is the main motivation for all, I would say.

Political backstabbing and tonnes of cash make for strange bedfellows -

Oddly enough, they come from the same secret club......yet, promote the pretense as if they don't.

Makes for good gossipy and lakorn copy though, doesn't it?

I saw the whole Chuwit rant on Thai news. It was spectacular. He spat and trod on a photo of Anutin, threw all the stuff on the tables on the floor, then gave the finger over and over to everybody in the room, cameramen and all, much to their amusement. I think people like him because he behaves so outlandishly,  extraordinarily unThai. But he seems to get away with it. Knows his audience I guess, and doesn't give a hoot. He's got my nonexistent vote.

Was considering voting for BJP because they fulfilled the cannabis promises but now Anutin wants to charge people with more than one speed tab as dealers and give them stiff prison sentences vs. current policy of rehab course for up to 15 tabs for first offences. I don't support yaabaa taking but putting the poor sods in prison for small amounts, while leaving his friends the big time drug dealers go free is cruel and insane.

This spitting on papers doesn't improve my rating of Anutin either.

Very classy. Sounds like a keeper.

Loser!

He's been sucking the life out of the real medical personnel since he got the job from the unelected government  (junta).

Hang 'em would be appropriate and appreciated by 99.9% of the nation.

My Wife always says they are only in it to get easy money, nobody ever knows what policies they support, then when they are voted in we never, ever, see them again.
