Popular Post webfact Posted March 5, 2023 Popular Post Posted March 5, 2023 A pixelated image of Mr. Carkhuff and him being attacked by the guard, inset. Photo: Sanook.com by TNR Staff AN AMERICAN tourist who was handcuffed and slapped in the face by a pub guard eight days ago over a misunderstanding about a bottle of water Sunday (Mar. 5) filed a police report for prosecution of the owner and the guard who attacked him, Sanook.com said. The victim, only identified as Mr. Carhuff, was accompanied by his lawyer, Mr. Kriengsak Pinthusornsri, in filing this report. He related that at 2 a.m. on Feb. 25 he and his brother together with two female friends had gone to this pub on Khao San road. One of the women ordered two bottles of beer to drink and the bartender handed over a bottle of water as well. As he thought the water was free, he took it to their table. He added that in the US when a customer starts feeling intoxicated the pubs and bars immediately give them free water to drink and he thought this was the case in Thailand too. Popular Post mstevens Posted March 5, 2023 Popular Post Posted March 5, 2023 Whatever the outcome of this complaint, it's nice to see a foreigner standing up for themselves for a change and actually making an official complaint against a Thai in a case where on the surface it seems that one is warranted. All too often foreigners are walked over in Thailand, treated unfairly and do nothing when an official complaint really is warranted. Of course, in some cases the foreigner may have been partially in the wrong or exacerbated things but in this case it really sounds like the pub staff messed up. It appears the pub owner is keen to settle so perhaps a confidential settlement will take place and the American will return to the States with some extra cash. 21 1 6 4

So Sad USD/Euro/THB comes into play here. Was there any real financial damage? American...which Country, there are about 37 Countries in the Americas. One does not get to apply their home laws in a Foreign land. He made an error in judgement, the Thai Bouncer over reacted...common issue in LOFS. Popular Post Shop mak Posted March 5, 2023 Popular Post Posted March 5, 2023 Mr. Carhuff could had met the owner already, and received a unknown amount. What's the point with prosecution of the owner and the guard? Owner was early very apologetic, closed the Pub for few days, fired the security man who is now famous for all the wrong reasons. Strongly doubt Mr. Carhuff will get any big Payday, bringing this to Court. 4 1 1

Totally agree, if it were me, I would do it just to see the bouncer go to jail, wouldn't be interested in damages as I wouldn't blame the owner for the bouncers actions. Once the bouncer was in jail, I would like to visit him, and then when face to face behind the glass window, I would blow him a kiss and give him a wink, only then would I feel better and that justice was served. Question is, would I go to all of this trouble, nope, just better to drop the ball and not play as the bouncer already lost his job. 3 1 2

Popular Post streetlite Posted March 6, 2023 Popular Post Posted March 6, 2023 Sue happy American. It's one of the reason's I left. Never got a "free" bottle of water at an American bar. A glass of tap water maybe. Go back home, you're an embarrassment. 3 4

Correct, my nephew got into a lot of trouble in his youth he finally figure it out early missing out and not taking advantage of the education opportunity it was learning a trade. Plumber? he got into a program with the City I remember standing at a intersection crossing notice him in a hole digging while superior co-worker stood LOL, 5 years forward he was making 150,000 USD, because an inspector building department opened a side plumbing consulting how to navigate the permit process a few years later he left his gross then was close to half a million a year. 2
Thingamabob Posted March 6, 2023 Posted March 6, 2023 Thailand is not the USA. Things work differently here. Whatever you are doing in another country never forget that. 1
