March 10, 20233 yr “The Florida State Guard will be comprised of Floridians, and it will be assigned to assist and help only Floridians,” DeSantis said in a news conference last June. “It will not be subject to be mobilized by the federal government, and the federal government cannot impose policies or penalties on the Florida State Guard.” DeSantis claimed the Florida National Guard, which is governed by the federal government and was credited for helping rescue people after hurricanes Ian and Nicole last year, was not providing enough resources to the state. https://www.clickorlando.com/news/investigators/2023/03/09/desantis-seeks-98-million-to-fund-floridas-own-military/

March 10, 20233 yr Just now, heybruce said: Nah, he's just wasting Florida taxpayer's money to keep his name in the news, his face on Faux News, and promote his bid for President. Mainstream Christians are fleeing Idaho because the Christian nationalists are fleeing blue states and destroying their lives and faith. That should alarm any rational thinking person.
March 10, 20233 yr Is this supposed to dovetail with that crazy lady's idea of a red state/blue state split?

How does having an unnecessary and redundant second Florida State Guard make Florida a great place to live? Stemming the agricultural and septic tank run-off that is leading to more frequent and longer lasting red tides along Florida's beaches would make the state a better place to live, but that's hard and wouldn't get DeSantis on Faux News. So he does this nonsense instead.
March 10, 20233 yr Popular Post Well, I’ll be damned. The USA is not only defining “Rights” according to which state you are resident but now … wait for it … local warlords! The USA is catching up with the past of many third world cultures … OK and the present of some still existing today. Congratulation Governor … a leading candidate for the Republican Party!
March 10, 20233 yr Using state tax money to create state government ownership of a military service could be considered socialism in the US (equal protection for everyone no matter how much tax is paid by the individual). Next DeSantis will want free healthcare for his army and its veterans and tax paid accommodation for every soldier. All of it an additional burden for hardworking taxpayers. What happened to small government? Then again, if he sends troops to assist other states will there be any risk of federal troops having to become involved? It all sounds too dangerous.

Starve him.
March 10, 20233 yr Well he won't get much for that amount. It wouldn't buy him one wing of an F35. It hardly makes him a threat to anyone, bar perhaps a few alligators.
March 10, 20233 yr Popular Post Not clear that constitutionally he can create a militia independent of Federal authority: "The President shall be Commander in Chief of the Army and Navy of the United States, and of the Militia of the several States, when called into the actual Service of the United States; he may require the Opinion, in writing, of the principal Officer in each of the executive Departments, upon any Subject relating to the Duties of their respective Offices, and he shall have Power to grant Reprieves and Pardons for Offences against the United States, except in Cases of Impeachment." — US Constitution, article II, section 2, clause 1[26]

Unfortunately, the conservatives know they can't win a fair election with their nutcase ideology and abject lack of policies. Even rigged elections are sliding out of their grasp so talk of civil war is increasing.
March 10, 20233 yr Popular Post And they will all be stationed at polling booths come election time - or at least in democratic districts Not to intimidate anyone, just to check that everyone is voting legally you understand... Then of course they can put a marker on the door of everyone who voted democrat... Then they can be used to round up the "prurient" transgenders... and then... and then...
March 10, 20233 yr Maybe China will sell him a submarine. This screwball idea puts Florida ahead of Idaho and Texas on the "most likely to (try to) secede" roster.
March 11, 20233 yr My immediate thought was how would this work in an emergency if both National and Florida Guard forces were deployed but had different priorities....... But then from the linked article - Quote Twenty-two other states have supplemented the national guard with their own state guard forces. Anybody with knowledge on how that has worked?
March 11, 20233 yr Popular Post Besides early citation by placeholder, there is this in US Constitution " Article I, Section 10, Clause 3: No State shall, without the Consent of Congress, lay any Duty of Tonnage, keep Troops, or Ships of War in time of Peace, enter into any Agreement or Compact with another State, or with a foreign Power, or engage in War, unless actually invaded, or in such imminent Danger as will not admit of delay." Seems Trump has more company in the "I haven't a clue what the Constitution states" crowd. Dumber than a box of rocks
March 11, 20233 yr Reminds me of Hitler and his SS. What I don't understand is how they convince the taxpayers to pay for Keeping so many people in jail, costs a fortune. Really ,pinching people for smoking pot and picking up hookers ,do these guys need to be kept in jail?
March 11, 20233 yr The kind of thing a tin pot tyrant would do. DeSantis is a full on fascist in every way. If he gets power he may be even worse than Trump as he's not an insane clown obsessed with his own personal grievances. What happened to the republican party?
