How local residents came together to solve a two-decade old problem of wastewater flowing onto Hua Hin beach

For more than two decades, a section of Hua Hin beach had been marred by a recurring problem.

Whenever heavy rains occurred, waste water from nearby communities would flow into the sea, causing environmental pollution and health hazards.

The problem affected part of Hua Hin beach close to Soi 77, an area which is particularly popular with foreign tourists who go there to eat, drink, sunbathe and relax.

Recently, a group of concerned local residents, which included the owners of neighbouring Baan Sukkasaem, along with representatives from Less Plastic Thailand – a grass roots initiative working to reduce plastic pollution in the country – came together to tackle the problem.

That's 1 runoff into the gulf solved, maybe.

How about all the rest of them ?  If swimming at HH beach, or most of gulf beaches fronting any development, prepare for an ear infection. IMHO

I no longer bother, or if so, the head stays out of the water.  And that Ban Krut or Thung Wua Laen.   Anywhere near HH ... hell no, even locally at Ao Manao/PKK, lesson learned.

I was walking the beach most mornings during first Covid lockdown March/April 2020. That area was truly horrible and it was obvious raw sewerage. Glad to see they've finally solved the problem. Hopefully the pumps in the "lift station" have the capacity required for the heaviest rains.

There really is no Hua Hin treatment farm.....and I'm not sure if there are any in Thailand...this is the solution in this instance...hardly what one would call a modern sewage treatment station! Sewage and stormwater are treated as the same here!

Shameful.

If it was that easy to fix why wasn't it done years ago.

Hua Hin = Paradies city - What a pompous euphemism. It never was. You should be ashamed

That should read Parasite City  :whistling:

There is another run off near the pier that flows black at times????

We have a beach house, but it is well North of there,  about 400 meters south of the Palace and never had any problems with sewage or foul smells, probably because their is no way for it to run from Naebkehardt road across our gardens to the sea.

A bit like the so called “illegal restaurants built on stilts” near The Hilton, that the city council have been saying for 3 decades should be removed. They are still there and their toilets empty straight onto the beach area.
<deleted> city in all of that area. ????

20 years is hardly something to be proud of. Solution may work now, but for how long? They have just diverted the problem and treatment is still limited. Thai sewage treatment infrastructure is notorious for being poorly maintained, wait for the pumps to fail or pipes/khlongs to become blocked with rubbish. I do wish them well, but time will tell.
