Not much of a "town hall".  As is so often the case, the moderator couldn't help but hogging the spotlight and trying to debate Trump.  I don't think there were any questions at all from the attendees

Note he didn't need a cheat sheet and pre-prepared questions(a practise which i am assured is fine and normal in modern democracies). I like it Trumps way, it shows a persons mental abilities and seem

It's easy to see Trump would shred biden up in a one on one debate. Trump is still sharp.

This is also not a Ukraine - Russian war thread.

Comment on moderation also removed.

Trump is currently running for the republican nomination against other Republicans.

There are plenty of Republicans who are considering voting for someone other than Trump.

But for some very sick reasons Trump does seem the inevitable nominee.

ratings in the toilet.....seems like a smart move by CNN from a business standpoint. Trump is fantastic for ratings.

Ratings perhaps.

For the truth, NEVER.

But I can't stand Anderson Cooper.

But that is just your opinion.

He seems to have far more supporters than you.

Oh please.  I've seen several OPs which were from Fox News.  Much, much more bias than CNN can ever be.

I said earlier that their ratings went up by 10 times. Actually it was 7-8 times. But the point still stands.

I think both sides got what they wanted.  CNN got ratings- nearly 10 times their normal for that time slot.  Trump got exposure and showed that he can still stand up to a hostile journalist.  The audience got to see that "The Trump Show" still has a few episodes left.

Couple interesting points to me. First, CNN spent a lot of time and effort to set up the Town Hall. Then in the segment following it there were legions of CNN personalities crying and rending their garments, decrying THEIR OWN EMPLOYER for doing so!  A sight to behold.

Second, they need a better moderator and format next time. Kaitlyn (sp) was not up to the job, and as is normal with modern journalists tried to make the show about HER.  A Town Hall is to let the candidate and the people interact, not for the moderator to constantly interject and debate with the candidate. They spent more than 20 minutes talking about January 6, and about 3 minutes on the economy.

Third, Trump is still an entertainer. He was also more disciplined in his answers than I saw in 2016.  I don't want him to be the candidate, but he is going to be hard to unseat.  Perhaps in the end, that is what CNN is hoping for.

Well, it depends what is considered as being "hostile". If you consider that recalling Trump that elections were not rigged when he claimed it, was being "hostile", then the journalist was hostile. Other people would think she was just doing her job properly.

They should have a buzzer that makes an annoying sound every time he lies or better yet never do a live interview with the fraud that way when it airs the news anchor can lead off with something like trump made this statement it’s a lie then play what he said what s#@& show

Most of my family are hard-core conservatives.  Fortunately, many of them are not Trump-type  conservatives.  I have no problem is hearing the discussing the conservative point of view when it comes to policy and economics.  I do, however, have a problem when I have to deal with people who engage in conspiracy theories and outright lies.    I don't think it is in anybody's interest to have liars allowed to present a known lie.

Trump lost the election.  He wishes he had won, but he didn't.  If wishes were horses, beggars would ride.

Fact-checking Trump’s CNN town hall in New Hampshire

https://edition.cnn.com/2023/05/10/politics/fact-check-donald-trump-town-hall/index.html

Jeez....... thanks for posting the link, because it was an eye-opener for me that he could tell so many lies in such a short space of time, and you know the most disconcerting part of it is that he believes all that rubbish/those lies – he really does.

It is surely the sign of someone who has lost his marbles and who can't tell truth from fiction, or indeed reality from lies, and how anybody on this forum can refute this, belongs in the same rabbit hole as trump and his supporters – absolutely unbelievable.

Perhaps time for some psychoanalysis for the poor thing.

What is even more disconcerting is that his supporters still believe them!

You are mistaken Trump doesn’t debate he shouts and tells lies that sir isent a debate meanwhile Joe Biden just gets things done in spite of all the road blocks poison pills and attempted slanders that so alarms and terrifies the retrumplicans that they seem to be willing to tank the economy it’s not good for anyone

Some people listen to the whole interview , rather than just reading a few sentences and shouting "LIAR , LIAR"

How about my response. You didn't address it, why? I wrote "It's easy to see Trump would shred biden up in a one on one debate. Trump is still sharp." And you responded with deflection. You can't deny Trump can still talk sensibily without handlers.

Trump is a showman, has the gift of the gab, as do many politicians, that's how they get the jobs...

Biden, he has been around a while, he knows the ropes, doesn't have to do ads for McDonald's.....:cowboy:

You make a good point Tug, because you are quite right, trump doesn't debate, he just shouts out the same rubbish that he has memorised over the years – – so here's something to consider: – if he were ever asked a question out of the blue which he hadn't memorised over and over again, which he does with his lies, I doubt very much whether he could answer if it required any sort of critical thinking.

He is a huckster and low rent showman, and he appeals to his audience, because of that.

I did and he is a compulsive liar and he cannot change that. And how you can deny that he is a liar, when the fact checks are plain for all to see, and they can be backed up, shows so much about you and other trump fans......so sad.

What other points did Trump make in the interview ?

Did he mention the economy , the Russia/Ukraine war , any new variants of Covid or any other subject that is relevant today ?

The 2020 elections are in the past , time to deal with the 2024 election

About Trump, the relevant question is not "When did he lie?", It's "When did he tell the truth?" ????
