AN ONGOING crackdown by Immigration Police in Surat Thani province has so far netted six foreigners for overstaying their visa and two others for illegal entry, Naewna newspaper said this evening (June 11).

In the province-wide sweep taking place during June 7-21 another two persons were also arrested for not giving notification of the foreigners staying in their property within 24 hours of their arrival.

Clever Russian....cryptocurrency fraud, not paying his bills? Great way to draw attention to your overstay!  Is it really cost effective to have an island wide sweep to nab a few idiots who don't

Good. All the foreigners who fail to follow the rules are the cause of all the problems over the last 10 years or so.

Spot on observation. Cambodia is chomping at the bit to receive those who lack the million-plus dollars to stay in the Kingdom.  Someday soon, the Thais will have Thailand all to themselves.

The rules are a lot of the problem. Thailand just loves to make things more and more difficult...except foe the red carpet Chinese of course!

The rules are not particularly difficult to follow as far as I'm concerned.  I've been living in Udon Thani for about 15 years and other than the fiasco when the US embassy stopped providing income letters for immigration everything has been relatively smoothe.

Cant believe their was just one from Myanmar. I can take a walk round the back of the apartment and nab a dozen.

Where do we start?

1. They came to Thailand in person, rather than just transferring all their money there.

Nab a few and it sends out a message.... especially to the Russians.

Play the game or go back to the front line.

Not quite. It started under Thaksin...

But no explanation 'how'. When I rent a hotel room in Thailand, I always have to pay upfront. Or I pay for an apartment, where staff also insist on punctual payment. How can someone run up a bill of 66,000 baht?

I think many could run afoul of TM30 violations.

They do like tourists, and they have rules like any other country. When you enter Thailand, there is a stamp in your passport that clearly states how long you are permitted to stay - not counting possible extensions. So what's the problem?

Yes the rules, fair or unfair, might be designed to avoid too large "tourists" numbers. I find it ok, or Thailand wouldn't be the same.

Yeah for sure they are the major cause of Corona virus and the military government…

Just follow the rules mate and basically you wont have problems, of course if for some reason you decide to break the rules there are many Thais who are able to help you - for a price, and no responsibility.

There are probably many. My current landlady refuses to do the report, and, I suspect, (at least) another landlord in the past did as well.

This is the most stupid immigration rule I have ever encountered , followed by the 90 day report.

It was the lobbing Molotov cocktails over the fence that gave them away

Suratthani is a big province it would be helpful to know the actual area or island that they were apprehended on . I would t be surprised if there were a large number of Russians on overstay due to the conflict that is taking place looks like the crypto currency guy will be getting free bed and breakfast for a while as the saying goes do the crime do the time !

Good guys in ... bad guys out ....

Who in their right minds and civil conscience would do, want, condone, hide, excuse, or enable illegal and or expired visa holders (in any country) other than for humanitarian or political refugee reasons, to reside around them in their community?
