Here's how Trump's historic day in court will unfold

Featured Replies

Donald Trump will have another day in court on Tuesday, when he is due to surrender to authorities in Miami to face charges that he mishandled classified documents.

The first former president ever to face federal charges, he is accused of 37 criminal counts of unauthorised possession of classified material, obstruction of justice and making false statements to law enforcement.

Mr Trump's court appearance is his second in less than three months. He was arraigned in April in New York on charges that he falsified business records for a 2016 hush-money payment to a porn star. But that is a state-level case and much less serious than the one he is now facing.

Florida officials are bracing for protests from supporters and opponents.

Here's how we expect Tuesday's arraignment to unfold.

Most of us could not handle this sort of humiliation but Trump can.

  • Treating him differently from a normal person says something about the law. He should be treated equally with others charged with espionage. It is a serious crime.

Want to see his real height, without his shoe lifts, in the mug shot. And how the burnt umber make-up looks.

Some of the Watergate conspirators mug shots are classics. AG John Mitchell for example.

From the OP.......

'Normally, defendants who appear.....in court are handcuffed and get their fingerprints and mugshots taken.

But legal experts do not expect the former president to face the same procedures as any other defendant'.

Very disappointing that Trump is not getting equal justice here even when the GOP are calling for equal justice but for all the wrong reasons.

A similar case is Jack Teixeira, the 21-year-old airman charged in connection with the leaked documents probe.

Teixeira was charged with illegally removing, retaining and transmitting classified documents under the Espionage Act.

The judge called Teixeira disloyal to the U S into how he accessed top secret documents.

He was handcuffed and wore a tan jumpsuit when arraigned ,was denied bail and jailed until his trial because of flight risk and risk to obstruct justice.

Apparently the legal system is gonna do a better job of keeping his mug shot from the public than the government does with top secret nuclear documents.

Better than Trump does!

This is going to be good! At what time should we sit in front of TV with popcorn?

I posted this on another topic, but it's good enough to post twice:

"Donald Trump spent the day before his historic appearance in federal court scrambling to find a qualified Florida lawyer willing to join his defense team as he faces the Justice Department’s first prosecution of a former president."

"Several prominent Florida attorneys declined to take Trump on as a client after two of the key lawyers handling the documents matter — Jim Trusty and John Rowley — resigned last week, according to people familiar with the matter."

"Trusty and Rowley’s departure was sudden and unexpected, leaving Trump jockeying to identify a lawyer ahead of his Tuesday appearance in federal court in Miami, where rules require practicing attorneys to be a member in good standing of the Florida bar or to be sponsored by one before appearing."  https://www.washingtonpost.com/national-security/2023/06/12/trump-documents-lawyer/

Seems like the current reading for Federal crimes is that mug shots cannot be released.

Detroit Free Press Inc. v. U.S. Dep't of Justice

https://casetext.com/case/detroit-free-press-inc-v-us-dept-of-justice-2

https://www.politico.com/blogs/under-the-radar/2016/07/mugshots-federal-criminal-suspects-225546

The 6th Circuit decision does not mean that federal mugshots will never see the light of day. It leaves open the possibility that they could be released in response to FOIA requests on a case-by-case basis, perhaps when there are credible allegations of police abuse or in cases of unusual public interest. In addition, federal authorities sometimes choose to release mugshots outside the FOIA process, like when officials are seeking a suspect.

Varies for state crimes by state, unsurprisingly.

Florida
Mug shots are subject to public inspection unless they are exempt criminal intelligence information or are otherwise exempt. Fla. Stat. § 119.071(2)(c)(1) (2020).

Trump won't be seen as he enters by a tunnel and they'll be 100 reporters filming some protesters and getting their amazing insights into why they think Trump's been wronged.

Most likely there will be more media folks than protesters.

We won’t see much aside from (any) protesters unfortunately he will be appearing before a judge who appears to be an acolyte of trump she most likely will do everything she can to do his bidding if her past rulings are considered.just lock him up allready enough humiliation of our country!

I read she is still the Judge but a Magistrate will take on this first appearance

And then her ruling could possibly be challenged at a higher instance if it is obviously wrong ? It cannot be that the whole case now depends on one single person despite obvious evidence - or is this OK in the US ? I would not be surprized.

Two flame posts with one using disguised profanity have been removed.

Stay civil, and do not post vulgarities.

Watching the "protest" outside the Miami courthouse live. I have more fingers on one hand than there are protesters. They mostly look over 70 and, strangely, all white and male.

This Trump appointed "judge" is as unscrupulous as he is. She's in his pocket and has already been overruled TWICE by higher courts for abuse of power, as she made totally unjustified Trump favorable rulings. Almost as if she doesn't even know LAW. Hopefully this gross Trumpism and gross Trump sycophantic insanity ends soon...with him behind bars

One protester, looks older than Biden, singing a Johnny Cash song with modified lyrics. Sheesh.

Personally - love him or hate him -  I think this event sparks the end of the USA. There is now one president overseeing the potential imprisonment of his biggest rival for the next election. This is Bannana Republic stuff. Imagine what the USA would say about another country doing it

Biden who has done basically exactly the same as trump with documents and not a sausage of a prosecution by the DOJ and FBI - these agencies just sign off false Russian dossiers  against Trump, whilst stating Hunter's laptop was fake.

I have no issues with a prosecution against Trump, but heavens, even it out or look exactly what you are, the new Democrat states of America.

I full expect if Biden gets in again, that there their will be referendums by states to leave the USA

No, Texas can’t legally secede from the U.S., despite popular myth
The theme of independence has recurred throughout the history of Texas, which was a republic from 1836–45. But the Civil War established that a state cannot secede.

If there were any doubt remaining after this matter, the late Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia set it to rest when he asked by a screenwriter in 2006 whether there was a legal basis for secession. In his response, he wrote: “The answer is clear,” Scalia wrote. “If there was any constitutional issue resolved by the Civil War, it is that there is no right to secede.

Really?  Did Biden refuse to return documents, attempt to hide them, show classified to uncleared people, etc.?

If not, stop lying.

Pretty wild imagination. Maybe a lesson in American History it's probably a good time.

Do tell.

A referendum to secede is not a thing, and it never was. Do you understand what a referendum is?

Are you American?

I think you're being overly hysterical with your prognostications.
