Most woke people can't define it either.

There's no mania on the anti-woke side.

The plenty of manic folks on the woke end of the spectrum from what I see.

And it's being supported and pushed by the left media

I look at woke as being people falling over themselves to impress others, and show they are open and free, and do so for all sorts of reasons. But many people who actually want to do good and who do do good get lumped in with them.

Is woke people really something to worry about. If someone is a bit over zealous does it make a bit of difference.

Have trans people had any impact on your life.

I find it hard to see why people get so passionate about such a minor thing in society. So many other things to get excited about.

Me too, 35+ years ago when 'woke' was considered to be normal sensible common sense thinking, attitudes and behaviors.

Can you give some examples of such common sense behaviors and attitudes?

I think it's just gone radical.

Basically, "woke" used to mean knowing things like racism being bad, that everyone should be treated the same, and there were injustices that really needed to be addressed.  Now "woke" means pointless virtue-signalling and pandering to the extreme, particularly things that are nonsensical/fake, have the opposite effect that they are intended to, and that ruin some form of art.

Yeah not an attack word.

Thats the ticket.

It isn't an attack word as it isn't used exclusively to attack people.  It's mainly used in very legitimate criticism.

And of course, people know what it means.  You simply want to try to stop people using it as you like the things that it is used to critique.

I also didn't move here for political reasons.

I came when Obama was elected.

I liked that.

So you bailed because of colour?

Not at all.

What a bizarre assumption.

Again DUH my decision to move to Thailand and its timing had absolutely nothing to do with politics.

Woke example: LGBT Pride/Respect vs LGBT Acceptance. I fall into the latter group. Respect, for me and others I know, is always earned on an individual basis, not a group basis.

The extreme left is pushing the woke agenda, and both the moderate dems, and the right are pushing back. Very few like it. Alot just go along with it. Being "not PC" has its risks these days.

Read your post again. I suggest some folks (repeat some folks), including me, would assume you were making a negative comment about obama being elected.

Thanks for clarifying that my interpretation of your post was wrong.

I call B.S.

What is anti woke now?

It's bigoted implicitly pro Putin videos such as featured in this topic and fascist politicians like DeSantis who is obsessed with demonizing LGBT people, especially trans people, and also white washing black history.

I think your perception of what is going on with this woke politics thing is horribly DATED.

The people being attacked and it's almost all coming from the far right (which is basically the right in the U.S.) as woke do NOT identify as woke.

The concept has been completely PERVERTED.

Your take may have made more sense some years ago. It doesn't now.

About the proposed village in Russia for escaping right wing Americans.

I don't know if this will ever happen but of course from Russia's POV it would be a propaganda win and the Americans would be allowing themselves to be used for that purpose.

Russian propaganda and right wing American rhetoric have been nearly identical.

So Trump is woke? He panders to the extreme, is often nonsensical and dishonest and agrees with removing literature he doesn't like from libraries.

I've not been affected by it due to living in Thailand, but I would not want to be in the West.

What's going on in schools over there in the name of wokeness is just sick.

Also, France (and other parts of Europe) is pretty much burning to the ground and this is largely due to woke do-gooders making the country vulnerable. The Left are also joining in with these riots, so they support it.

It's weird.  I see a "right-wing" nut job and a "left-wing" nut job, both wrong about much of what they say and only really looking to score points for "their tribe".

I don't think either of them has any sort of moral high-ground.

I like the use of the word "tribe",,,right on point!!!

Its interesting to read the comments about 'woke'.

Granted the extreme of the continuum or awareness has and always has been strange and full of obvious mal-adaptions and neuroses.

The notion of the dictionary meaning of the word woke is however nothing but the seeking of awareness and the promulgation of open mindedness ...

... "What is the meaning of woke in Oxford dictionary?

/wəʊk/ (informal, often disapproving) aware of social and political issues, especially racism This word is often used in a disapproving way by people who think that some other people are too easily upset about these issues, or talk too much about them in a way that does not change anything.

(https://www.google.com/search?q=definitions+opf+woke&rlz=1C5CHFA_enAU964AU964&oq=definitions+opf+woke&aqs=chrome..69i57.290053525j1j15&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8

"wake

VERB.

1 if Gran wakes she'll want a glass of water | at 4.30 a.m. Mark woke up: awake, awaken, waken (up), rouse, stir, come to, come around; get up, get out of bed, bestir oneself, get going, come alive, show signs of life; literary arise. ANTONYMS  sleep; fall asleep2 she opened the door before waking her husband | he woke her up with a cup of tea: waken, rouse, arouse, bring to, bring around; British informal knock up.3 a clip round the ear might wake him up a bit: stir up, activate, stimulate, spur, prod, galvanise, enliven, give a lift/boost to, ginger up, buoy up, refresh, invigorate, revitalise, inspire; informal perk up, pep up. 4 they finally woke up to what we have been saying: realise, become aware of, become conscious of, become mindful of, become heedful of, become alert to.5 the name woke a forgotten and embarrassing memory: evoke, call up, conjure up, rouse, stir, revive, awaken, refresh, renew, resuscitate, revivify, rekindle, reignite, rejuvenate, stimulate."

(Oxford Dictionary, 2023.).

The word 'woke' has like so much of the English language been hijacked by extremist, either that of the extreme left chaotic-anarchist or the far right racial-supremacists who are just as equally anti-social, anti-awareness, anti-critical thinking, bigoted and authoritarian.

If you read the words in bold then to be anti-woke indicates you are one of those who a barrier to cohesive society not the other who identifies with social and political ideologies and processes aligned with free speech, free thinking, tolerance, expansive evolutionary developing thinking, and action.

What then makes a person anti-woke? The simple answer to this question is fear. Fear in many forms.

Most of this fear is taught in the familial home (usually multi-generationally welded into the family system) and reinforced in some circles of societies outside of the family outward and as we see across the globe.

Fear of those who are different usually along racial lines is one of the base-lines of such bigotry.

Fear of 'the other' has been habitually and neurotically expressed in every anti-woke trope I have ever read. Fear and its enablers justifiers; hate & rage are always palpable in such tropes.

Moderate considered woke is one of the fuels which moves humanity forward and towards its highest ideals and achievements e.g the development of democracy in the Greek state of Polis (Athens) around the 6th century B.C.  was a classic example of woke thinking.

The paranoid ideologies that drag queens and gay people will consume humanity and make us all gay is, from histories teaching, the same paranoid fabled narrative that is worthy of compassion and engagement with those who suffer such bigoted, underdeveloped thinking and familial created emotional abuse promoted paranoia.

'Real men' don't fear gay people, or different thinking, quite the opposite.

Extreme Islam and Christianity have anti-woke movements non less than political groups who court and curry favour with these religions because they recognise them as  already having within them masses of bigoted and fearful patrons e.g. Sharia and the evangelical Pentecostal faiths to name but two who espouse, and energetically so, anti-woke ideologies/theologies.

Indeed there are forms of Buddhism that hold such ideologies and practices. Most would identify Buddhism as being perhaps one of the most tolerant of spiritual paths but in some forms it is as violently anti-woke. They too see 'the other' as less-than, threatening.

So threatening in fact e.g. Some of the Buddhist sects of Myanmar view Muslim Rohingya as less than insects on the reincarnation wheel and therefore justifiable of 'extermination'.

No.  It's quite mainstream.  Pretty average people complain about movies being garbage because of following some sort of "woke agenda".  Equally when companies "go woke" in some sort of marketing campaign, like Gillette or Bud Light, average people notice and say "What is this woke garbage?"

Don't fall for left-wing activists who want to prevent the use of the word because they support what it criticises.
