Thaksin Must Serve 1-Year Sentence, No More Sentence Reductions, says Wissanu

The big question is what about the outstanding court cases, If justice is to be served, will they go to court and what about sentencing on those cases if he is found guilty? An interesting situation, perhaps Red bull boy is watching the problem with interest.

Thaksin arrives in Thailand August 22nd to serve 8 years in jail.  A week later that 8 year sentence is 1 year.

My guess is that he'll be under house arrest for "health reasons" and "humanitarian considerations" before the end of the month.

"Ordinary prisoner?"  Oh, Please, don't make me (and 70 million Thais) laugh.

Amazing just two or three weeks ago wasn’t he in Cambodia at a party shaking hands looking good then he comes back here unless in 24 hours is brought to a luxury room in that hotel I mean hospital and now he has to serve one year so I guess I’ll be unhealthy for one year so I can stay in this luxury suite at the hospital. Will you be able to have his own chef prepared meals for him, I don’t think you’ll be wearing hospital gowns do you what a joke I think the Red Bull kid should come back and get a luxury room next-door to him at the hospital TIT

Red Bull boy is young enough that he will wait out the statutes of limitations and reenter Thailand a completely free man (while thumbing his nose at the family of the police officer he killed and Thai 'commoners' in general).

"We submitted a Interpol Red Notice."

Bunk.  Interpol Red Notices are searchable and the last time I checked he name wasn't on the list.  And why not?  He's a billionaires heir.  Untouchable.  Kon Peeset.  A special person, sorta like Tony.

Whats the chances the new Justice Minister reviews this 1 yr sentence !!

Not a lot.

The one person who is way above everybody's pay grade, has made the decision and signed off on it.

IMO if the new Justice Minister wants to chance his luck, then he needs to be reminded that he is easily replaceable.

If they wanted to arrest Khun Boss, they could, he aint exactly in hiding.

But yeah only a few short years remain and then he is home free !!

Former Prime Minister 'Thaksin Shinawatra' will be treated like an ordinary prisoner, with no further sentence reductions, signifying an uncompromising exercise of supreme royal authority

Just to clarify, will that be one year jail-time or one year in the luxury wing of the police hospital...

Just to be really transparent.

Clever move - still a criminal always a criminal, it also curtails the nonsense of it was a trumped-up political charge. Suck it up Thaksin your charges have now been confirmed by the highest authority.

Nonsense.

Why waste the time and resources fighting the trumped up charges when you’ve effectively been handed a free pass?

Only an idiot would choose otherwise.

No time off for good behavior?

He actually will be entitled to that also, about 3 days per month served.

Then he will be eligible very soon for parole  due to his age and alleged health issues.

Also, he is allowed up to 120 days in a hospital outside which can specialize in his "health conditions". So, that will be it, no time served. We all know it's pure garbage.

The door has also been left open regards ' politics ' as the statement from the Royal Gazette mentions that not only was he was loyal to the monarchy but also his experience and expertise will be useful for the new government and benefit of the country.

To quote Wissanu-

Thaksin can no longer seek further royal clemency, having already received a royal pardon, and he must serve the remaining 1-year sentence without the possibility of sentence reduction. This solidifies the assertion of unassailable royal authority.

If one day in a few months time, or even a few weeks time there's another publication in the Gazette then whatever it says will be obeyed

Strange, I haven't seen any of this ever since he returned to Thailand. I've never heard of ordinary prisoners being taken to the hospital in the middle of the night either, by helicopter no less.

Let's just say I won't be surprised by anything that happens.

The final sentence of this Daily News piece is curious.....and amongst other things......bristles with a kind of menacing vibe (imo). ????????????

Something 'lost in translation' here? Author's own views ambiguously expressed?

Dark days in the LOS, by golly. To be more specific about why I think so would be too unwise.

Not all Interpol Red Notices can be looked up by the public. In fact, only a minority of them are searchable.

As the Interpol website says:

Quote

The majority of Red Notices are restricted to law enforcement use only.

My guess is that he will be "plagued by ill-health" and spend a lot of the next year in hospital.

one wonders if he will be allowed to engage in political activities.

THailand's ruling elite is very fractious, but one way or the other Thaksin is a fully paid up member.... just a bit o a bete noir.

And an old friend of the old king's son.

It is ironic.

Wissanu was one of the "legal scholars" who helped lay the juristic foundations for authoritarian rule in Thailand, exponent of a "legal-military alliance for illiberal constitutionism" and proponent of theories that legalized coups d'etat "by reference the continuity of the Thai state as embodied by the king.  (ref. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wissanu_Krea-ngam  )

Now the former legal advisor and spokesman to the NCPO coup leadership and subsequent legal advisor/ spokesman throughout the Prayut regime adjudicates legal demands for a convicted political leader while Wissanu got royal amensty along with the entire NCPO coup leadership for essentially treason under the 2007 Constitution.

Thank you PTP for the very hypocrisy you allegedly fought against.

Beautifully laid out...????.....in more words than I would have had the stamina to type!

Seriously.......you've nailed it, re Wissanu. The guy is certainly high up there in my ranking of most descipable junta hustlers.

Good call. I thank you. ????????

But the RTP cannot arrest 'Boss' so easily whilst he is not in Thailand.

Firstly they have to issue a Red Notice through interpol. Then the country he is in has to issue a warrant for his arrest through that country's legal system.

There also needs to be an extradition treaty between Thailand and the country he is found in. Only then can Thailand claim him and send the RTP to bring him back to Thailand.

The system falls down if Thailand does not issue a Red Notice for his arrest, and it appears that they have not.
