Why do Americans put the Month before the Day in their format? In 'English' 9-11 means the 9th November, logically.

They borrowed it from that backward bred island folks, the one that still use stones for weight, who later saw the light and switched to what most of the world uses.

One of the hypotheses is that the United States borrowed the way it was written from the United Kingdom who used it before the 20th century and then later changed it to match Europe (dd-mm-yyyy).

Day, Month, Year (smallest to largest) seems more logical than Month, Day, Year. But it's just their way of doing things.

There is still some logic in the Chinese way, but I can't see any logic in the American way.

Last online TM 30 I was not thinking and entered the dates American style, rejected, a quick change and all was well. My birthday is 8/8 so not easy for this old fart to remember which is which. ????

From a filing point of view (computers etc) year, month, day is the best process.

Utterly confusing, totally unnecessary... upside-down and inside out..

 

Putting MM before DD in a MM-DD-YYYY format is just idiotic.

 

I've worked for numerous international companies and the ones which use the MM-DD-YY format always suffer some sort of delay, fault or issue as a result.

 

IMO the ONLY valid date format for international use is DD-MMM-YYYY to avoid any confusion whatsoever... i.e. 24-JAN-2024  this is complete unambiguous and removes every dash of doubt or misunderstanding.

And would it be good if someone, apart from Pope Gregory, came up with a logical calendar  eg 10 months in a year, ignoring the old Lunar months. , or 12 x 30 day months with 5 'unallocated days for New Years Day , mid winter, mid summer and the two equinoxes. That would mean scrapping year numbers as they use here.

+1! when sorted by computers, YYYYMMDD sorted alphabetically by ASCII or any other character set that i have seen results in chronological sorting.  all makes good sense to me.

You must be referring to the USA.  The Americas have 37 Countries.

 

The USofA has it’s own ideas that contradict many other standards throughout the World.

KM vs Miles,  Metric vs SAE,  F vs C,  Right vs Left, Fat lib females vs petite mannered females.

 

Not going change it, so deal with it.

There us a clear difference between English (USA) and English (UK), just check your spell checkers

I’m as British as it can be and I prefer the old imperial measurements. If anyone asks me how tall I am I tell them in feet and inches and tell them to convert it themselves, I much prefer Fahrenheit to centigrade for temperature and I’m so many stones and pounds not rediculous kilos. But yes I can easily work in metric because it was forced upon us and having had a proper education can use both.

I think it’s strange that this is of any significance .  Guess some have too much time on their hands. 
And the America haters.  Most couldn’t make it living in America or other western countries. That’s one of the reasons you are living in Thailand.

Why are KILOS 'ridiculous'. Metric makes far more sense, and easier to compute.

Speak for yourself, The reason I live in Thailand 20yrs is Because I made it in western countries, I don't need or want to work or own a business here.
