A pregnant Thai woman and her American husband demanded compensation after the couple and their son were electrocuted while bathing in a luxury hotel jacuzzi in the Sattahip district of Chon Buri province. The woman is also concerned about the effect of the electric shock on her unborn baby.

 

The 30 year old woman, Monthakan Khansantier, sought the help of a renowned Thai lawyer, Ronnarong Kaewphet, after the hotel offered her only 100,000 baht in compensation. Monthakan said the treatment was unfair as she and her family almost died and they are now afraid to engage in any pool-related activities.

 

Monthakan told the Daily News that she and her family stayed at the luxury hotel for three days from August 20 to 23 this year. The stay cost 3,364 baht per night, which she said was reasonable.

Monthakan said she was happy until the shocking incident on the final day of their stay. Her husband, three year old son and herself were enjoying the jacuzzi on the hotel’s rooftop. After 20 minutes in the pool, they all felt numb all over their bodies and found it difficult to move their legs and arms.

Hardly luxury at 3364 Baht per night. But that's  no excuse for not giving proper compensation. Giving 100000 is an insult in this case.

The justice / compensation is they survived, most wouldn't being "electrocuted" in a Jacuzzi.

Of course, have the authorities investigated why /what the cause was and had it rectified - no, why worry nobody died.

He he, well as it so happens, I've had a more harrowing experience in a jacuzzi than them although it rather difficult to convey. Let's just say if you skull is fractured and you are permanently brain damaged, taking a hot jacuzzi and sticking your head under the water to see what happens is definitely not a good idea if you prefer to remain conscious and have clear vision.

Why did it take so long to numb their bodies?  I thought electrocution was quicker than that?

For an individual of this quality, joining the ADF would make more sense IMHO. He might not end up caught on the wrong side of the fence.

The symptoms sound very strange.  Was it actually proven that there was an electrical fault?  Perhaps the hotel was using 'cannabis water' in their jacuzzi!

The article says the hotel offered up to 100k baht refund for any medical expenses that can be proved with a receipt. No compensation at all for almost dying by electrocution which has unfortunately happened to tourists in hotel pools before.

They got an electric shock.

 

They were not electrocuted.

As an electronics engineer, I'm intrigued to know how the hospital was able to identify a 5 second electric shock!  Electric shock really is only identifiable by skin burns etc from a large energy shock, in which they would be well and truly dead!

 

Wait a moment!  Maybe the doctors looked at the guy's frazzled hair and attributed that to an electric shock ???? (Apologies for this totally non-PC comment...)
