  • Another thread from our Thaier than Thai foreigner.   Maybe OP should have it tattooed on his forehead that he has a Thai ID card, and then expect everyone to prostrate for him

It beats... "you, you... Hey you Falang, you, you... want tuk-tuk ?"....   while you are trying to cross the road and the tuk-tuk stops in front of you actually stopping you from crossing the road.

Got it.

A smiley or similar is helpful to ascertain if a thread is sarcastic or not.

What does a Sarcasm emoji look like please. Is 555 not enough? You know, ha ha ha

In your own language Neeraram.

No. I'm just being true to authentic Americanisms.

If you don't like it, I could care less.

Yawn - just another attempt at Thai bashing.

As the Op carries Thai nationality, we'd have to call it something else..

'Other Thai Bashing' ??... or simply other people bashing...

I don't actually think this is Thai bashing at all... Just an observation of how interactions here can take a twist...

The accusation of 'Thai bashing' is thrown around too frequently, when really people are just making observations of differences and discussing them.

So Meestur, you say you're a Thai national?

So where are you REALLY from, Meestur?

So, that means you actually care?

Shouldn't the expression be, "I couldn't care less," if you are trying to express how little you care?

Some can be both, like Albert McIntyre, the most famous superstar in Thailand.

It's an Americanism is all. I grew up using it and I like it.

Interesting word, can Americanism refer to people in Argentina do/say? I say change your language to Spanish and call yourself a new name.

No.

You know that too.

Why the play dumb charade?

Is it just me, or do others get annoyed being called 'mister' everywhere you go?

Some tell me it is Thais trying to be respectful, but I disagree, I think it's disrespectful. People who know show respect by say 'khun' or 'ajarn' Neeranam.

Mister is the equivalent of Khun, so what's the problem.  Are you an English teacher, then they are being polite, and using what they were taught.

I disagree. I will explain why later.

I see... So there is room to 'care less' about this topic...

This Americanisms is interesting, it's a completely illogical colloquialism.

It means exactly the same thing as couldn't care less in actual usage.

If you can't process that that language has oddities, I could care less.

If you literally translate "where the sun don't shine" to Thai, do Thais understand that we're talking about buttholes?

‘Could Care Less’ Versus ‘Couldn’t Care Less’ - Quick and Dirty Tips

With the British having a reputation for excelling in the art of sarcasm, also considered one of the lowest forms of wit....  it's interesting how the phrase 'I could care less' seems so odd...

Perhaps us Brits don't get 'American sarcasm'...   I've heard the phrase uttered by US politicians without the slightest intonation of sarcasm which makes it seem more odd.

So does 'I could climb Mt Everest' and 'I couldn't climb Mt Everest' mean the same? Sorry you are wrong.

It's an origin theory.

I give it credence as Yiddish has had a massive influence on American English.

No, this is an English idiom or euphemism.  Literally translating idioms obviously doesn't work.

It just seems to be in Hua Hin that people call me mister. They totally separate white guys from the brown ones.

You can have all the Thai documentation in the world, You are not Thai.

So does 'If you CAN process...etc, mean the same as 'If you CANNOT process? No.

Stick to proper English, not silly Americanisms.

Or, I could eat more, or I couldn't eat more.

I suspect in early USA, most immigrants couldn't speak English and they made a simple error which stuck.

Of course it doesn't.

I don't think we need Brit-centric usage police on this forum.

I'm not saying you should use Americanisms.

Just that sometimes I choose to.

Now I'm confused... You could care less or couldn't as you keep commenting !!!... :giggle:

The Yiddish origins make sense...
