In a bold move against corruption, Police General Permpoon Chidchob, Thailand’s Education Minister, issued directives to all education officials, mandating the avoidance of potential conflicts of interest.

This action aims to eradicate graft, corruption, and fraud which can stem from such conflicts.

Concerning this, Pol. Gen. Permpoon stated that all agencies must strive for total transparency and accountability. He believes, it “will go a long way in preventing malfeasance. To aid this, several guidelines have been provided to education personnel, designed to prevent any rule violation.”

Chidchob also revealed that education agencies are required to maintain a record of gifts exceeding 3,000 baht in value, received from academic staff. In addition to this, agencies are to log any bribery-related complaints and submit these records to their respective supervisors every six months.

So is he a Pol Gen or Education minister, or both?

Ah yes... issuing a directive - surely the finest way to stop all corruption.

"Bold move."

This man is a genius, and a real anti-corruption hero. /cough

He did facilitate the red bull heir's escape from Justice, so he knows a thing or two about corruption.

A directive designed to be filed in the waste paper bin.

Foremost, he is a Chidchob, Like Chai Chidchob, Newin Chidchob, Saksayam Chidchob before him, this Police General Chidchob is also dedicated to erase corruption in his domain. This family has been eradicating corruption in Thailand for decades, and one wonders how corruption continues to achieve new heights...

To stop corruption which is endemic and a way of life in Thailand it must start at the top. It will not happen at the top so corruption will continue down the ladder. I don't think it would be too much of a stretch to say every school director is corrupt to a certain extent. For one, directors pay for their position and will immidiately start on recouping this cost.

I disagree, humbly. The best way to get nothing done is Thailand is to form a committee.

That's the Thai system. He has spoken, made his recommendations, and his job is done. Anything that happens later is not his responsibility. You, I, he and everyone else knows that what is said will be ignored and is unenforceable, but that is not the point. He has acted, done what he considers to be his job, while actually doing nothing. This happens all the time, at least once a week. Someone makes a declaration and the next day it's ignored and forgotten. But that person has done their job by 'acting'.

"..mandating the avoidance of potential conflicts of interest." In other words, make sure everyone in the food chain shares the spoils (except students, of course)
