Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin’s first overseas mission, to the United Nations General Assembly, was regarded at home as a success only in business aspects, but a failure in terms of the environment and human rights, notably the role of his government in solving the crisis in Myanmar.

Srettha led a Thai delegation to New York for the UN annual conference from September 18-24 with the major objective of reviving global confidence in Thailand and to reaffirm the country’s commitment to the international community.

Former finance minister Korn Chatikavanij posted on his Facebook that Srettha’s presence at the UN was a boost for Thailand. Notably in terms of the economy, business and investment.

Probably not far off.

I recall that PM during his UN trips looked forward to having American beef steak dinners served in his hotel room.

All hat, no cattle, but with a healthy dollop of buffalo.

But he blew 30 million baht on airfare, and his wife/daughter got to see the Big Apple.

All to give a three-minute speech on the "Sufficiency Economy".

He's useless.

Might be worth listening to if he were the actual voted-for PM, but is just a wannabe, a lame duck now-army stooge.

So far, he has shown us little, other than a big smile. His rebate program and a plan for a digital wallet is not going to be much of a boost for a sagging economy, that Prayuth nearly destroyed. The economy is in trouble here. Nobody knows how high real unemployment still is.

When it comes to the real estate sector, especially condos, demand is way down. The Chinese market is nearly gone, some Russians are buying, but who else? And the long term Western tourists are gone too. So, who does that leave? Wealthy Thais, many of whom see the market collapsing, and would rather wait and see how all of this shakes out, and ex-pats, many of whom are smart enough to be shopping for bargains right now, or putting their money elsewhere. Perhaps if the baht drops to 50 to a dollar, the market could get a boost.

Maybe selling condos was not a good prerequisite to lead a nation out of the abyss? Maybe they should have stuck with the man who was actually elected?

I hear Warren's family are going to sue him.

Sorry not impressed with this fellow. Maybe with some time he'll wise up and do something, but the way he boasts leads me to think he'll be boasting about imaginary irrelevant successes; and the Ruch will get richer and the poor will get still poorer.

Boasting about meeting people: meeting a contact is the first step of a thousand step dance to a deal. He's congratulating himself like the deal was signed already.

what do you expect, he has no experience of government, no qualifications for it and no mandate from the people.

No sign so far that the new PM is anything other than an establishment mouthpiece.

How about free and open market concepts?
