He further explained that each rank would be given the opportunity to choose their preferred role, starting with the most senior.

Doing little for big reward! ????‍♂️

That’s exactly what is wrong with the RTP and what used to be wrong with Western military and civil service.

Seniority/dead men’s shoes ignores merit in favour of long service/creeping. Allowing them to choose posts never puts the right person in the right job.

For lower ranks they have a competitive exam on mostly irrelevant questions, with different pass marks for those with different types of degrees. Pass numbers are severely limited.

Instead of this being a qualification that enables you to apply for suitable posts, you can choose your next post based on exam position.

And it only lasts a year before you have to go through the whole charade again. All at candidate’s cost.

Total nonsense, meant only for the most naive. There is nothing resembling a meritocracy here. Quite the opposite. Never has been. Hopefully, once the toxic, greedy, abusive dinosaurs are ousted, they can establish one.

plans for a merit-based system for appointing and transferring police generals, aiming to foster unity within the force.

and effectiveness?  It's such a novel idea it could catch on throughout the land in all areas doing away with nepotism.

I guess the Big News on the 5th is that Big Joke's lawyer (also representing the eight subordinates) will drop a bombshell that day unless some demands are met.

I expect that this will be sorted, with the original claims papered over - Cyber Crimes unit moved on a bad tip from an unreliable informant, it was all a mistake, and Big Joke regaining some, if not all, of his previous prominence.

Middle path, as always.

Is that not opposite to "merit-based" ?

In Thailand, being old and 'senior' is the merit. Pee and Nong etc.

Nothing in this culture gets done based on actual ability or competence.

........stated that all positions would be open to all based on seniority......

So NOT based on merit. Status quo  prevails.????

I'm not sure I follow this. So will appointments be based on merit, or seniority?

Seniority merit - simple as that ????
