There are not scams all over in Thailand and those other countries you mentioned are just as scammy or even more than Thailand . Like in India , there are scams everywhere and much more than in Thailand 2 1

Now they come to your house, want to have photos of you, don't even trust their own staff, as they'll take a photo of themselves at your house number. Make the wife get a certification that still married every year now. Don't even trust local office to do them. I remember it was exactly the same in CM 2010, they arrived mob handed (6 of them) for my first marriage extension, and 'raided' all the foreigners around me at the same time for not reporting their addresses. 1 1

Maybe a motorbike or 2nd hand car. If very lucky, a builder financed condo. But at 60 yrs old, do you really want a 30 yr mortgage, or be in 1 place. 3 1 1

Popular Post QuantumQuandry Posted October 5, 2023 Popular Post Posted October 5, 2023 I am sure it can be done most places for 60k, depending on his lifestyle. That said, having been an expat in the Philippines for a long time, I would possibly consider that a better option, at that income level. I spent about 70%, there, compared to what I do in Pattaya, and you can literally stay there for 3 years with no visa at all, leave for a day and come back for another 3, ad infinitum. It does depend on your lifestyle, though. If you love Thai food and hate Filipino food (not uncommon), obviously that wouldn't work for you. But it's extra attractive for Americans as the culture (and food imports) are kind of geared towards them, where Pattaya, at least, is much more brit-centric. Don't get me wrong, I love Thailand, too. I am living in Thailand now, with my Filipina girl. But if I was concerned about my income (or they change the visa rules too much), I wouldn't hesitate to move back to the Philippines. 4 1

Why is it that Pattaya, pre covid, with no beach, no family facilities, had 9.5 million visitors That was nearly half the amount of tourists entering Thailand, they weren't coming for the culture, or the non existent sightseeing, were they? I am sorry if the facts are not to your liking but that's life. Not everyone's the same but most of them that visit Thailand are, whether you like it or not 1 2

I've used the company twice the last 10 years and one was for 2 week stay in ER. and another 2 weeks in a private room. Pretty much handsoff and nearly 100% of the bills paid. The high deductible is a recent adjustment because anything under 200k is not a major worry. I'm extremely heathy and since giving up cycling ( too many broken bones) my health is much more predictable. There are bad outcomes that can be had at any insurance company. Many nightmare stories on this forum but we are only hearing one side of the story. I've been fortunate I guess and never experienced an issue. If I was an alcoholic (borderline in my case ), had high blood pressure or any of the issues that being overweight brings, insurance would be a much more tiresome process. I do many stupid thing and venture to say I'm stupider than the next guy but I seem to have stumbled into good health and reap the benefits which one is insurance. 2

I had a pal in PI that was a bit old and infirm, near the end of his 3 years he went to PI immigration and said he was a bit scared of the flight out and in, they said, 'no problem sir, we'll just mark your passport as too ill to travel and you can stay another 3 years without leaving' Can't get more reasonable and helpful than that. I used to go to PI every 3 months (non-o multi bounces), and the pretty young airport immigration lady said, "you come here very often sir, but only for a week, you should stay longer and get to know the country and people more'. I got the impression, she would have been happy to show me around, her phone number was definitely available. Nice people in PI, they seem to like foreigners much more than Thai people, and immigration staff were always extremely pleasant, always smiles, never the Thai scowls. 3 2 1
