scubascuba3 Posted October 6, 2023 Posted October 6, 2023 Might be something to do with needing a pharmacist on duty some of the day. I reckon they can't compete with Fascino, i always go there first 1 1
John Drake Posted October 6, 2023 Posted October 6, 2023 Pharmacies are everywhere. It's just that there are no pharmacists on duty so you can buy anything other than shampoo. 1 2

I never have a problem locally (Samut Prakan) with the few meds I need. 3 pharmacies on the high street and all have staff any time I go in. 1

In every country, state or province that has re-legalized cannabis, the use of opiate-based analgesics, and alcohol has dropped significantly. Not enough to close pharmacies though. 2
CecilM Posted October 7, 2023 Posted October 7, 2023 (edited) I haven’t noticed a decline in neither my old nor new area of residence. They seem to be everywhere in Bangkok. Edited October 7, 2023 by CecilM 1

cracker1 Posted October 7, 2023 Posted October 7, 2023 Earlier this year the Government mandated that pharmacies could not open unless they had a qualified pharmacist on site. So I suggest there must be a shortage of trained pharmacists that may be causing this problem. ? 1 1
Lacessit Posted October 7, 2023 Posted October 7, 2023 I have noticed several big pharmacies in Chiang Rai have closed down.

Then gradually they are replaced by an old mom or dad, grandparents or the occasional boyfriend or husband/wife. I dunno where the pharmacists spend their time, maybe upstairs playing computer games? 1

Andycoops Posted October 8, 2023 Posted October 8, 2023 In my local town here in Isaan we've never had so many new pharmacies open... From being just 3 or 4 there are now more than a dozen.

Most pharmacists front for about 10 shops. So they're probably at one of their other stores. 1

If I need something like Sara or other, there is a pharmacy within Lotus where I live and a couple of Pharmacies, all within a 20 minute country drive, that said, they can't compete on prices when buying meds online.
willi2006 Posted October 8, 2023 Posted October 8, 2023 Had a similar experience looking for Kerry Express locations on Google Maps. Most of them were closed or didn't exist (anymore). A friend of mine had the same experience looking for Yamaha motorbike shops. From this I assume deleting places in Google Maps takes a long time.

Relying on Google for each and everything. I stumble upon so many faults. There is really no shortage of pharmacies in Pattaya. But indeed some may have gone. One (of two) in Soi Diana made way for a bar. About half of dozen on one leg of Soi Buakhao. Forget the pharmacies in the malls. Indeed often no pharmacist on duty. An annoyance. On the other hand, some franchises of international outlets (Boots, Watsons) have closed (e.g. in Royal Garden Plaza), or moved to other locations. Personally, I prefer to buy at these outlets, not the small ones. Edited October 8, 2023 by StayinThailand2much
