Electricity may exceed ฿4 per unit next year

The Energy Regulatory Commission of Thailand (ERCT) has warned that the price of electricity in Thailand may exceed 4 baht per unit next year, due to factors ranging from the escalation of the war between Israel and Hamas and the prolonged war in Ukraine to the weakening of the baht currency against the greenback.

 

ERCT Secretary-General Komkrit Tantravanich said that these factors will have an impact on the price of crude oil and natural gas on the global market, which direct effects the cost of electricity generation.

 

Thailand relies on natural gas as a major fuel for electricity generation, he said, and external factors could be further compounded by whether the production target of 800 million cubic feet/day of natural gas in the Gulf of Thailand, especially from the Erawan field, is achieved by April.

I was surprised that my 23 october month Electric Bill cost me only 3.78 Baht/unit.

Normally above 5 Baht a Unit.

Overall price (amount to pay/number of units).

If every vehicle goes electric how high will the electric price be then? A lot higher than 4 Baht a unit. Will have to be to cover the cost of all the infrastructure that will need to be added and upgraded.

Same here in the Rice paddies. Was over 4 Baht and been over 5 Baht since Feb 2023 and 3.9 this month so what is this all about???

Was recently looking at renting an apartment/condo in Bkk. Very few landlords give you the actual bill. They charge you 8 Bht+++ per unit. No reduction gets passed on.

Yes, PTP came through with their electricity reduction just in time for the lowest usage months of the year. Now, rates will come back with a vengeance when electricity use will increase and then soar in April/May. We will pay several times over for this late year discount.

Most apartments in Pattaya charge 9 THB /unit. I pay about 4000 each month, in electric bill alone, for a 40 sqm unit. That's about 450 kWh each month.

Similar for me, my October bill was the same unit usage as September but the bill was less... first time a drop this year

Also, as I keep saying to people who think EV's are God's gift to humanity, when everyone is driving them the Government will rack up the cost of electric to offset the loss of revenue on petrol sales.

There was some discount on my bill this month...about 350 baht I think it was.... a lot less than 2-3 months ago that's for sure.

My PEA bill this month averaged 4.3 baht/unit.  That's including all the taxes and a credit on the bill.

Much cooler this month than last, more rain. Tariffs reduced along with a rebate.

I older one replaced and one extra one added to main bedroom. Yes might be the temperature....I wasn't here in September so couldn't make the comparison myself. There has definitely been a cooler feeling in the last couple of weeks.

Even if so, it will still be cheaper than putting petrol in the tank. Even cheaper if you have a solar installation. And it’s better for the air quality, especially in the cities. Less noise pollution too.

Because they agreed on a rate cut for the months of Sept to December.   It's been in the news. 

Google "thailand electricity rate cut"   the first result should be from the Bangkok Post detailing it.

The CEO of Toyota has come out and stated they are stopping the production of EV's. Maybe later they will resume but they think they have a better option with Hydrogen based fuel.

Mine on the same day here in rural Kamphaeng Phet was 4.62 baht. the lowest this year.

 

Going back a bit the lowest was 2.36 baht. That was back in May 2019. Mostly it has been over 4 baht a unit for the last 3 years.

Could that have been due to Prayuth's government raising the cost before they were kicked out and also because the PTP have only recently taken control.
