BYD Seal Glass Sunroof Sun Shade

The first video of me fitting it is here: https://youtu.be/ayE0prjuWXw

What was your opinion on the glass roof ?

We have seen one poster who feels the roof still makes the car hot even with a quality film installed and has fitted the sun shade permanently.

How did you end up ?

My opinion ( pretty worthless as I haven’t got the car yet but here goes )

Will install an 80% film , probably Solar Gard on roof.

Still have the option to fit the sun shade and, as we have seen from your video, it does let plenty of light in.

Worst ( or best depending on how you look at it ) case scenario, fit the sunshade with a layer of foil reflecting foam in between.

I have said in the past that it is a shame to cover that beautiful glass roof but, tbh, I don’t know how I will feel living with that huge window over my head. After the novelty wears off maybe I won’t even remember it is there anymore ?

My last two cars have had sun roofs but after first week never even opened the sun shade let alone the sun roof itself.

Time will tell but i am leaning towards, putting the film and enjoying the view ( upwards ) for a while then maybe a month later fitting the sun shade, job done.

After all i will be concentrating on the road ahead, wife will be concentrating on her phone and the kids will be concentrating on the inside of their eyelids before we get out of the moobahn !!

@Andrew Dwyer

I installed the sun shade for a video, then immediately removed it and put the 2 pieces in the boot. Faced with the prospect of putting shopping on top of it I struggled to put it back in the bag, where it will now stay.

I currently have no film on the glass of my car, but I am seriously considering PPF for the paintwork.

I am loving the cooled seats and I don’t find the car too hot.

I have a theory that dark privacy film actually makes a car hotter.

To me it made sense to live with car for a few weeks before deciding what and even if to fit film

There are 4 types of PPF, matt, gloss, self-healing matt and self-healing gloss.

I had self-healing gloss on my last car, I wished I had ordered matt as it's much more unusual and gives your car a unique look.  The car did still look like new after 2 years.

I concur with your theory on dark film, fitting a film on the underside may have little effect as any heat reflected is likely to be absorbed by the roof itself. I think the fix is to fit film on the outside that reflects the heat of the sun and stops the glass panel getting hot when the car is stationary, there are specialist films available for this.

I now have rolls of photochromic window film for the windows, I want to try it by holding it first as it needs UV rays to work, I have read that a lot of car windows remove UV so if it doesn't work I will go with a good ceramic tint after a while, I never block more than 40% of the light as I find it awkward at night.

I had random beeps with my MG initially, so much so I returned to the dealer and they did a diagnostic check but said all was good.

Turned out that the majority of the beeps, actually a couple of different bell sounds, were from the cruise control which I had tested but then closed ( not a fan here in Thailand ).

Once I had gone into cruise control settings and made some changes they disappeared except for speed cameras which I left.

I was experimenting with the cruise control during the drive, so the long, unexplained beeps may have something to do with that, although I doubt it.

The cruise control, like the assistant tech, is almost brilliant. But, for me, it looks like it's gonna be unusable. And it's not because I'm driving on Thai roads. It's like your 95 year old, super-safe granny is driving. Except that she's so super-safe, she's dangerous and a liability - and a hopeless driver!

Dash cams :

As I mentioned before i have bought the BYD dashcam and if happy would use my existing 70Mai at the rear. But, since then and during the waiting period for the car i have seen this , comes specifically for the BYD Seal :

IMG_1849.jpeg.e40cbd7380a70809f723fae0235ed4f4.jpeg

A front and rear camera with a replacement LED rear view mirror. Files saved to a micro sd card as the norm but the highlights, imo, are :

Time lapse video (parking surveillance) for up to 24 hours.

Stream your rear/front (or split screen) on the rear view mirror.

Both cameras 1080p.

Plugs into the existing cable for BYD dash so no trailing wires or use of usb/ 12v port.

For me just improved rear view from

IMG_1889.jpeg.75bad337c741cdedfcaccd9d9ddc96a8.jpeg

to

IMG_1891.thumb.jpeg.7aaa498419941d64bc3fb87e76f1fe9e.jpeg

makes it worth while .

Front camera goes here tucked up behind the mirror:

IMG_1897.jpeg.00ff1fa9c9a0343aa22c44f39f2641dc.jpeg

Spoke to these people and the rear camera can be mounted externally above the license plate :

IMG_1888.thumb.jpeg.4db20798e5263240f44a08889f9e72b7.jpeg

or internally as in rear view photo above.

7500 baht fitted, the guy seems very happy to accommodate any customer requirements.

Obviously resolution and night vision need to be checked but seems like a super neat viable option to me.

Search FB for Sinjet if interested.

Interesting, so they remove the existing mirror and then fit this camera do they?  Visibility look a whole lot better doesn't it.  I suppose my only worry with this would be if it stops working somehow, you'd be a bit knackered, until they can fix it.

Yes, I thought it very interesting , on this video at around the 45 seconds mark he turns it off and it reacts as a normal mirror ( I think ):

So today I joined the pod and reserved a Seal Premium.  Had a call back from the seller, later in the day, saying we should be able to get the car next week!  I was totally shocked (and very happy) by this, as he'd suggested it'll take a month, so looks like our Xmas road trip is going to be electrified!

Wow , I ordered my Premium Grey on Oct 24th and still hoping for the end of the month.

Suppose it depends on location and colour, have seen some Premium in white and black available and one in grey at some far flung location but mostly the Premium is in demand.

This seems to be absolutely brilliant. Almost too good to be true.

Unfortunately I have already installed my 70mai, otherwise I'd have this in a heartbeat.

I ordered the Seal Performance in Space Grey on 19/10 and still awaiting a delivery date, I am still 3rd in the queue at my dealer for that model/colour combination as I was 8 days ago.

Maybe it's on Lazada?

From what I gather Sinjet is a Chinese electronics company making, primarily, heads up displays.
This dual dash camera set up is used on the Chinese Seal and this guy imports the kits and now operates under a Sinjet Thailand logo.

Seen a lot of interest from owners of other cars but currently only Seal kit available, he himself drives a Seal.

Can’t help thinking if he invests in some kits other popular brands he would have himself a little gold mine !

Did have a look on Lazada but couldn’t see it, there might be similar products but none made specifically ( the mirror mount and front camera mounting profile etc ) for the Seal.

Did you watch my video on Launch Control?

I guess you could drive the car with the main screen showing the rear view ?, but that would surely distract as well as hogging the screen.

Note: I think you need to turn traction control off for the 0-100, although it might promote wheel spin most do turn it off for the test.

The manual says that the battery needs to be 95% to get max performance. I will try it again without a heavily pregnant passenger.

I want to protect my tyres more than I want to shave a couple of tenths off my time

The available differing views from the multitude of onboard cameras is fantastic.

Brilliant for parking really close to a kerb, for example.

Our seller told us the wait for grey would be much longer. It certainly seems to be the most popular, and I can see why as they look great. Our other car is grey though, so wanted something different.

Although interestingly, I've seen loads of white and black Seals on the road since they were released, I can't recall seeing many grey ones at all. Does make me wonder if they slightly underestimated the demand for grey and didn't have the stock available that they had in the other colours.

Ah yeah, so in off mode it's just a standard mirror, no issues at all then.

Later in the video at about 3.20, he turns it off a night and the difference is incredible.

I think you have nailed it and they possibly overestimated the need for Black, seems like Black is readily available in the 3 models at many places ( slightly less for the Premium version ).

I recall someone posted, on FB, they were queue number 53 for a Premium Grey, I would change to white if that was my situation.

Was quoted end of the month around 10 days ago but might give my showroom a visit today or tomorrow.

Congratulations!  Seems a similar story to what our dealer told us in that they were getting a large(ish) delivery of cars at the end of this month and one of which they've allocated to me (wonder if I'll get a photo too ).

Since my dealer has been useless on the subject of the firmware update, I have been bugging BYD Rever about the outstanding OTA to turn off the ice cream truck sound. This is what they finally answered:

Firstly, we wish to inform you that the Over-The-Air (OTA) update is scheduled for release in November, and you will be duly notified once it becomes available. We strongly recommend your patience in awaiting the impending update. Meanwhile, as we prepare for the update, we kindly request your cooperation in providing the following information to ascertain your ownership of the vehicle. This information will enable us to coordinate with relevant agencies effectively: 1. Full Name: 2. Phone Number: 3. Registered Email: 4. Vehicle Identification Number (VIN): 5. Model-Sub Model: 6. Dealer's Name: 7. License Plate Number:

There is budding hope, something will finally move........albeit November is just a few more days :clap2:

Ha! My dealership told me, a couple of weeks ago, that I will get a little red alert on my infotainment display screen and, when that happens, I am to drive to the dealership and they will do the update for me.

I could be mistaken, but I don't believe there are any BYD sanctioned optional extras for the Seal - unless individual dealerships are offering non-official options like window film.
