Why are the rails on Thai balconies so low?

Pretty much every one I see the rail is well below my hip centre of gravity - so easy to tip over if unsteady on your feet for any reason...

I do,

Too many mishaps from higher floors.

Also, it negates the need for a 3-foot balcony rail.

But sadly obligates security iron.....

It negates the need for people jumping.

3 foot rail will do nothing, they will get over that easily to do a Swamy!

can’t stop someone from committing suicide!

Easy to go over these 3 foot tall balconies at the best of times, but add weed (and possibly a night on the lash) into the mix…!

Here comes the tired claim of the allegedly low rails in Thailand that don't actually exist.

Thai Balcony rails are built for midgets not Falangs, should be part of the safety demonstration on  all flights entering Thailand. :giggle:

Myth.

You're FOS  :whistling:

Thai rails are within an international standard and not below your hip.

I was in a place the other day that had a staircase without a rail at the top.... you could have stepped off the floor straight into a 5-8 foot drop.

Last house built, no hand rail on stairway going up to 2nd floor 'open area'.   Builder ask 'you no want railing'  and I just answered 'do I look that stupid'

Present house, no railing along front porch steps or back veranda steps.  Or railing to prevent falling off back veranda.

I don't know how people fall over railings.  Especially since they are 90cm here/TH.

Does seem to be a Brit thing, as I Google, "fall from balcony on holiday", and seem to be dominated by warnings to Brits on holiday.

The title is missing a final word....

Pot

Blame it on pot?  Maybe but my guess is that alcohol was the more likely substance at 5 am.
