Missing Finnish Man Found Safe in Patong after Losing Contact with Family in Finland

Phuket – A missing Finnish man in Phuket was found safe after he had lost contact with his family back home in Finland, which caused them great concern.

The Phuket Tourist Police told the Phuket Express that on Friday (December 15th) they were notified from a male Finnish tourist, Mr. A (pseudonym) that said he was contacted by a friend’s family who live in Finland to make a police report.

 

The family told Mr. A that they could not contact their son who had been visiting Phuket since December 6th , last week. They were afraid that the missing man might be in danger. Mr. A agreed to file a police report as he had not seen the missing man personally.

I think you need to read one more time, as you did not understand. Mr. A filed a police report after the missing mans parents requested that. After that, the police found out that he was staying in Patong, and only then he was considered to be found. In other words, not missing no more.

These days with mobile phones and internet everywhere, one really needs to make a point of letting people know if they're planning to go off-grid for any significant amount of time, otherwise situations like this will occur.

A Finnish tourist and was not in contact with his family. His family contacted a friend who was also staying in Phuket who, though he had not seen the tourist personally, contacted the police and reported him as missing.

 

The police did a search for the missing tourist and found him, presumably in Patong and advised him to contact his family, which it seems that he did.

 

The friend thanked the police for their assistance.

 

It is nice to know that people still care about their family who can still be found, and the police do do their job.

 

A good show for the police.

Yes, especially since their investigation revealed the the overstaying Finn was falsely claiming that his going missing was due to being extorted for EUR7,000 by the RTP when it was the Finn who was just scamming his own parents.  Piece of shlt.

Patong—At 1:00 AM, on December 15th, 2023, Thai tourist police received a missing person report from Finnish parents that they could not contact their son as an anonymous person allegedly impersonated a Phuket police officer and asked for 7,000 euros to release their son.

The tourist police investigated the case and were able to contact the missing person who was publicly identified as Mr. Aki-Perreri Kristian, a 27-year-old Finnish tourist, and his friend who was publicly identified as Mr. Siikalouma Joonass Patteri, a 34-year-old Finnish tourist.

 

Neither tourist was in trouble, at least not in terms of being kidnapped. In fact, the truth was shocking to many…the two overstaying tourists had made up the entire story in an elaborate scheme to try to get money from their parents and stay longer in Thailand.

 

According to a report by Patong police officers on December 16th, Kristian and Patteri had overstayed for more than 141 days. Both Finnish tourists reportedly confessed that they made up a story about being held captive by the police to ask for money from Kristian’s parents, said the police.

Finnish tourist in Phuket cons parents with fake arrest scam for 7,000 euros

Phuket’s tourist police unraveled a fraudulent scheme involving a 27 year old Finnish man, who conned his parents out of 7,000 euros. The tourist falsely claimed that he had been arrested and demanded the hefty amount for his release. The revelation unfolded when the parents lodged a complaint on Friday after losing contact with their son, fearing he was a victim of police extortion.

 

The following day, the police tracked down the Finnish man along with another 34 year old Finnish national.

 

Upon questioning at the Patong police station, they confessed to the scam. The younger man admitted that he had deceived his parents by claiming that the local police had arrested him and were demanding a ransom of 7,000 euros (US$ 7,635) for his release.

 

Adding to the parents’ distress, they received a phone call from an individual posing as a Phuket policeman. He instructed them to transfer 7,000 euros to a designated account. Unable to reach their son, the worried parents complied, reported Bangkok Post.
