I second that.

SS is fantastic and very underrated.

Yes fantastic guitaring, in rebel yell.

It's easy to rattle off the usual suspects in this type of thread, but lets here it for the unsung guitar hero's.

Steve is one of them.

Ps got to post it, check this out.

Duane Allman and Dicky Betts playing off each other in the Allman Brothers Band, nothing else like it.

Someone told Duane he was a great guitarist, he answered "No, I'm a famous guitarist, Dicky Betts is a great guitarist".

So many great players, but I think the interplay between these two is something special.

Classical: Julian Bream

Finger style: Leo Kottke, Ton van Bergeyk

Fret Tapping: Stanley Jordan

Popular: Prince

Offbeat: Michael Hedges

Guns N' Roses, Slash

some of the less known (maybe) folks I've seen, as solo acts, at small venues:

Alvin Lee

Rory Gallagher

Nils Lofgren

Jonny Lang

Kenny Wayne Shepperd

I'm familiar with most blues, rock, some jazz players and some 'grunge' / STP type bands.  Not so familiar extreme heavy metal, punk guitar plays.

Duane and Clapton were pretty badass together...

I heard an interview with Gregg, and he said he started playing guitar about a year before Duane, and in week Duane was already better.

Robin Guthrie of the Cocteau Twins.

He has said in interviews that he really isn't a good guitarist at all, but I find the beauty and creativity of his music off the scale.

Brian May

This guy doesn't belong on any list of great guitarists. He's a wanna be at best.

Have you listened to the riff he plays in "Too much love will kill you"? IMO it's up with the best.

Robby Krieger

Neil Young, at his best.

One riff doesn't make a great guitarist. He's no Eric Clapton or BB King. He just doesn't rate in this category.

I am no music expert, I just know what I like listening to.

In my book....the TOP THREE all-time GREATS of Guitar, non-classical....ARE;

J. Beck.

Jeff Beck...and...

JEFF BECK:

So solly that J.Beck died far too young.....

Nice Guy, too, I think....

And, let's all give a shout-out to our man Bruce!

A brilliant guy, this Jack, from Scotland, who was partially classically trained, if the truth be told.

FANTASTIC....

Great Venue, as well.....!

Agreed. I didn't even know he existed till I saw it on here.

Could have been me. I was learning the guitar while wintering over in Antarctica, but someone had a fight in the bar and broke the only guitar on the base.
