Pattaya — The Thai National Parks Department is launching an investigation into a foreign man who was spotted driving through the street of Pattaya in a Bentley, accompanied by what appears to be a lion cub in the back seat.

The incident came to light from a viral TikTok video posted by a user named “Ann Isaan Russia (แอน อีสานรัสเซีย)”. The clip clearly depicted a white lion sitting in a luxurious open-roof Bentley, traversing on the busy street of Pattaya.

 

In the footage, several motorists appeared concerned and somewhat apprehensive about the lion’s presence, given the proximity between them and the animal. However, the lion itself seemed calm and domesticated and appeared to have a collar and leash.

 

In response to the incident, Mr. Atthaphon Charoenchansa, the Director-General of the Department of National Parks, immediately assigned relevant officials to investigate the incident.

I’ve seen this car several times parked at the northern end of Jomtien beach (Dongtan), though sadly minus lion. Hard not to notice a white Bentley convertible with distinctive red highlights. The feline passenger could be a solution to the soi dog problem at the beach.

Thailand’s Department of National Parks, Wildlife, and Plant Conservation revealed that there are 153 lions in the possession of 24 Thai nationals, highlighting the controlled status of these wild animals and the legal requirement to declare ownership.

 

This announcement comes amidst a high-profile investigation following the circulation of a video showing a lion being driven around Pattaya in a Bentley, which drew significant public attention.

 

Atthaphon Charoenchansa, the Director-General of the Department of National Parks, Wildlife, and Plant Conservation, today ordered Naruephon Tipmontha, Director of the Forest Fire Control Division, to initiate an inquiry.

Yes, I think it is much more interested for Thai tax investigators from country Revenue & Customs or Internal Revenue Service Criminal Investigation Division, to take a closer look at money flow of the Lion owner where his possessions originate from, rather than a breach by transporting an animal.  The fines are peanuts for these guys, they laugh about it. It is much more interesting to see the books up to the very root of income, linked activities, companions, scrutinize to the bottom stone.

I knew a guy from Canada who bought his pet cat with him, and it was about the same size.  It was hilarious walking through the airport with the cat on top of the luggage carrier, looking at everyone.  Then, the look on the hotel staff's faces when they realized.  The hotel policy was that cats and small dogs were ok.  LOL, the Cat was bigger than a lot of dogs.  

 

I think the sceptics here need to give her a break. This cat has a few years on it and is probably as much of a member of the family as most kids are, if not more.

 

I can understand the concern, or Pattaya officials wonder how many Pattaya Thais would freak out if she moved in next door.

The reports did not state that being on a leash made it ok, it actually stated the opposite and confirmed that it was contravening the law.  A pint-sized Thai girl was not in control of it, a full-sized adult male was...it is also a cub, it is not fully grown.
